I want to record audio from my desk top and im trying to figure out how?

Well, I use the program "Audacity" for that.

Get a microphone (or headset). Plug it into the line-in on the back of your computer. Download Audacity. Make sure the input is set to the right device. Hit the record button. Make noise.

Are you trying to record the sounds coming out of your speakers or your voice?

If you wish to record your voice you'll need a microphone and a line-in.

Ah, so you're trying to record the sound the desktop is making! I thought you meant you wanted to record your own sounds using the desktop.
