Dragonborn DLC Armour and Weapons

Post » Tue Nov 06, 2012 3:56 am

So I made this thread for discussing specifically about armour and weapons in the upcoming DLC, Dawnguard, since the main Dragonborn thread is flooding so fast and it's mostly general thoughts.

Apparently, there will be Chitin, Bonemold, Nordic and Stalhrim armour in the DLC, though it's not really confirmed yet. (But I think the trailer showed Bonemold and Nordic) The trailer also showed some kind of more magey armour, perhaps used by the first Dragonborn's minions.

I'm speculating that perhaps there might be weapons made of these materials as well. Also, spears are confirmed, BUT it is not confirmed that the player can use them yet because the trailer only showed Reiklings using them.

I'm wondering how the armour types will be classified though. If there aren't any new perks/skill trees, I'm thinking Chitin and Bonemold would be Advanced Armours, Nordic would be steel and perhaps Stalhrim would be under Glass. (For smithing) As for the spears, they might use the existing two-handed/one-handed skill trees or they might even get a skill tree of their own, but nothing has been confirmed or rumoured about their skill use. However, since they never showed the player being able to use spears (which I think would be a big feature in the DLC) I suspect that the player won't be able to use them.

That looked amazing. I really need a new armor. Dragonscale is getting old.

The plate parts make it look like a new heavy armor.

at 0:50 we see bonemold armor with some sort of spectral armor spell or shout.

...You saw them being wielded. When was the last time you killed someone in Skyrim and you weren't able to loot the weapon off of them?

I really liked the one with the metal bear helmet (1.00). Is this the "nordic armour"? Not so sure about the "spectral armour" though (0.50). Hope we get to wear a furry armour like the one the old Skaal i wearing (0.20).

I'm pretty sure the spectral armour is either a shout or a spell, and I suspect the armour beneath the spectral armour shown is bonemold. It reminds me of the Redoran/Gah-Julan bonemold armour in Morrowind because of that scarf.

That would be awesome though!

Also, I appreciate this thread, because of all the epic things in the new dlc and trailer, this is what I am most interested in, especially considering I haven't made any real smithing investments in my current character (who is my main character). My biggest question is, will this new armor be better than the dragon armor/weapons? I suspect no, but it just might. If it is, that would really eliminate my desire to place any perks in the smithing tree (unless access to these new armors is inhibited by smithing perks).

Is anyone still holding out hope that they will retool the smithing tree? It would be a big investment I know, but it seems so clunky compared to every other tree. If it weren't for Dragon and Daedric perks, that tree would literally have no excuse to exist, and even then, when you weigh the cost of getting to those two perks, it almost doesn't seem worth it.
