So I guess we'll finally see a desert location in the skyrim

Post » Tue Nov 06, 2012 6:26 am

In the solstheim trailer there were giant mushroom thingys, with what appeared to look like a desert location. it seems like a mix of skyrim mountains, with arabian esque deserts + funny giant mushroom thingys.

For people who played morrowwind, and specifically the expansion pack, are these indeed deserts and how big are they in size?

There are Ash deserts, but nothing covered in sand and Solstheim is just like Skyrim in terms of landscape.

Meh, it looks arabian to me. Dim yellow sky, yellow sand. Minus the mushrooms of course, it look at least like a desert to me.

That's just a beach. If you go to the other side of the tower you would see water. The Telvanni almost always build near water, and in the part of the trailer where it shows the land view from the ocean, you can see the tower off to the left.

Doesn't look like a desert to me. I think it's just a sunset coloring.

There is a lot of ash spread across Morrowind but it was not a desert, and there wasn't any on Solsthiem. That could have changed though, since there also wasn't any Telvanni mushrooms there.
We might get some ashland landscapes, but it's not a desert.

Hammerfell is arabian. Morrowind is like... Indian.

The Earth's large http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert is actually Antarctica.
Going by the definition of desert, and the fact that it doesn't rain much in skyrim, the areas of the far north of Skyrim could probably be classed as deserts and so you could argue the need and necessity for a desert area to be introduced at all. :)

What about this settlement?

Also a beach?

Solstheim's landscape and climate is pretty much identical to Skyrim's which is probably why they chose to include it as a DLC, that and it's size is round about DLC size, not too big not too small.

skyrim doesn't have giant mushroom trees.

Also the archetecture from what i've noticed looks much more fantasy, and more sci-fi in some regards. definitely a change of pace regardless.

nah theres no deserts. Solthsiem is basically exactly like skyrim in terms of how it looks and landscape style.

All you saw in the trailer was a telvanni settlement. Those mushroom buildings are Telvanni buildings that they grow. In the trailer, it looks just like sunset lighting mixed with the outlandish houses making it look like a desert. Im like 99% sure thats theres not going to be a desert setting in this DLC.

The only deserts around morrowind are the desolate ash plains, but i dont think this DLC is going to take place in any of the ash plains on vvardenfell. Most of vvardenfell is uninhabitable now, and the dark elves as a whole moved to solthsiem.
Theres nothing indicating in the trailer that the DLC is going to have any place with a warm climate (you are on the sea of ghosts right now in the northernmost part of tamriel.)

The giant mushroom trees arent native to solthsiem and they can grow ANYWHERE.

In morrowind when you go to solthsiem there are NO giant mushroom trees on the entire island. The only reason they are on there now is cus the telvanni that settled there in the last 200 years have grown the giant mushroom trees as their towers/ houses.

If the telvanni wanted they can grow the gaint mushroom trees in skyrim no problem. In morrowind you manage to make a tower in the middle of the desolate ash plains, you can grow them anywhere.

He was right in saying that Solthsiem is indeed pretty much exactly the same as skyrim in terms of landscape. Though you will be seeing BUILDINGS unlike anything seen in skyrim.

Looks like new and improved fort frostmoth to me. BUT it could also be a new settlement.

Regardless, its still in a winter climate, if you look at the picture closely you can notice a snowy tree in the background. If it is a beach settlement (its a frozen beach settlement) my guess is that its either frostmoth or raven rock or a new settlement.

Either way its nice seeing the Redoran style houses (made from crab if i recall correctly)

The Red Year could have changed Solstheim's landscape and climate somewhat in the southern part.

Nah. Wait until hopefully TES VII, VIII or VIIII and they do a game in the series that is set in Hammerfell. Hopefully if they do, it will be the ultimate Dwemer campaign

That's what happens when your land gets flooded with lava and is next to a volcano. Anyway, they're Ash Deserts.

A volcano in a fantasy universe exploded not to far away, an ancient dragon priest is waking up, and HM is involved. Not to mention we'll be shoving our noses into everything as the Dragonborn. If we're being honest, I fear for the little island. Solstheim will have likely changed a lot.
