What are good RPGs you can recommend for people who like Sky

Post » Tue Nov 06, 2012 7:35 am

Well, the question is in the title. I like Tomb Raider and strategy games (like Civilization 3+4) a lot, and I love the lore/story/immersion that comes with Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind.

I am not afraid of zombies and I am not afraid of killing people - but it all depends on the story. Most game stories seem so damn bland. Ideally, I would want to play a hybrid game (RPG, adventure, strategy) with very diverse character classes / unique character development that has a deep story.

Graphics are a plus (I'm not a fan of the WOW color explosion) but not a must.

Which games would you guys recommend?

Thread might be off topic, but whatever :P

Dragon Age Origins, hands down. And stay the hell away from Dragon Age II.

Agree with Dragon Age Origins. I also love the Witcher series, though this comes with a preset character. But fantastic atmosphere and the storytelling in the 2nd one is superb.

I have heard good things about Drakensang: River of Time, if you don't mind older games. Haven't played it myself.

edit- This will probably be moved to the Community forum, don't be taken off guard if it does.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Fallout: New Vegas
Fallout 3
Dragon Age: Origins + Awakening
Knights of the Old Republic 2
Neverwinter Nights 2
Alpha Protocol
Civilization V
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
Amnesia: The Dark Descent

(The last two are adventure games, but among my favorites and lots of fun, especially if you are "not afraid of stuff".)

It seems to me like Bauldurs gate 2 is great for you, its basically that hyrbrid style game you're explaining, rpg strategy adventure game. Its got lots of core RPG elements, as well as the strategic element of DnD pen and paper style battle system with a party of up to 6 people, and all the same classes as DnD as well. As well as a great story. I was able to play the second bauldurs gate before the first one and not be lost on the story. I then of course went back to the first one, but it was not nearly as mind blowing as the second game is.
Ive now played through the game like 6 times or so in the last year.

Graphics arent great but they arent terrible either. It came out in like 2000 or something like that, but it doesnt feel out dated to me.

Another good one is both Fallout 1 and 2. They're turn based battle system, sorta like being in vats in fallout 3 all the time while in battle. Alright for strategy as well.

Well if you're onto playing old games you can always try Baldur's Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale 2 or even Planescape: Torment. Those were the days...

Recent RPG games that i recommend to you now:

The Witcher 2: Assassin's of Kings
Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning
Dragon's Dogma

Have fun :)

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Fallout: New Vegas
Fallout 3
This. + Dragon Age Origins. Also the Witcher 1 and 2.

All of them have a core narrative focus. From there it depends on the game. New Vegas and Fallout 3 also have a core exploration to them so open world. Witcher series offers a core combat aesthetic over exploration. So no open world, but semi large zones to explore in as opposed to one giant world. Game is divided into chapters. It really puts narrative first.

Vampire is also large explorable zones, but much larger than the ones in the Witcher series or at least they feel larger with more to do.

Origins also has the zoned areas thing going on. Though it is a pretty huge game for being zoned.

Agreed on KOTOR, i actually forgot that. KOTOR 1 and 2 are both good. Think Amnesia is the odd one out there :)

Divinity series perhaps. Divine Divinity in particular is like an Isometric Morrowind some feel. One of the best games ever made regardless of whether you agree with that or not.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas I guess. If you haven't already.

Witcher series maybe..a bit linear, but the story and atmosphere are top notch.

Also the Walking Dead, while not an RPG is an excellent narrative based game that really gets you into your character and the characters of the game. One in particular.

Wow thanks for your replies, guys! I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong category, wasn't aware there was a community section (my bad :/)
I'll be checking out all those games soon :D

Civ 5 was a let down (too simplified) and I need something to play until the new Skyrim DLC/ TR game will be announced.

Again - thank you!
