Scared ESO will be a WoW clone? Do some research.

Post » Thu Nov 08, 2012 8:19 am

Ever since the game was announced in May, people have been worried that ESO will be just like WoW. At the time, since there wasnt much info out there other than the announcement, I could understand.

However, there is a TON of info out now and all of it proves ESO is much more like a TES game than anything else. I could go on and on, but I'll just say do the research and you'll see for yourselves. Here is a link to bethblog, and all of the coverage on the game thats available. Start there and then tell me what your reasons are for thinking its a WoW clone.

because of what was said in the first reveal in May. after 5 years of development. the new info from october sounds great. but it won't erase initial fears until we hear more from the developers. to me it doesnt seem like throwing out 5 years of ideas and go in a completly different direction in the last year of game production will work out very well.

also it's great that is "much more like a tes game than anything else". but an ES game is not an mmo. single player games with some co-op thrown on to them tend to fail in the mmo market (see swtor). and swtor in my eyes was a wow clone with a single player, story driven leveling experience. give me something better.

also what Rageborn said. features getting in the game that i personally would not like to see because i find them tired and lazy. i dont want daily quests, gear treadmill, linear progression, sparkle ponies, pvp stats, all thats been done before. it's played out.

I think its pretty safe to say, at this point, there is nothing WoW-like in ESO. Unless you feel that having dungeons and questsin an MMO to be WoW-like

I agree highly. People should not have to worry. The game can't be a WoW clone if its not a complete rip off of WoW using the same mechanics and questing system..etc like WoW. Which has already been revealed by the Devs that the game doesn't. So now anyone who says they are still worried about it, well your just nit picking the game now. And its not even in beta yet. Wait till beta when you have a chance to play it THEN and only THEN should you be able to nit pick the game as much as you guys are now.

The intitial announcement and official press was extremely disappointing. The game sounds great, but the only people who have been able to sell it is anyone that isn't Zenimax Online. Why is that? E3 teaser and play-through were painfully generic and unexciting. Even looking back, E3 makes sense now, after hearing the blogger previews, but it was just unconvincing then.

This is what they neglected to say:

Skyrim PC combat equivalent.
Open-ended classes and leveling.
Strong Lore adherence.
ES-scale world. (read: massive)

No, not that, rather things as mini Alduin pet, dungeon/raid finder, daily quests and things like that. We know that you dont build mmos from scratch, there are certain successful features of other games you adopt (and we already know ammount of new features in TESO is rather stunning for the genre). WoW itself was a clone of Everquest upon release. So far I am rather impressed they brought features rather from DAoC then the wretched WoW. But the fear is still there

The criticism will not stop and people won't be satisfied until they are able to play the game themselves. That's how the gaming industry works. The more highly anticipated a title, the more criticism and bashing it will likely receive. It will be up to ZOS managing a quality beta to change the perception of those who are either blinded by fear or prejudice towards the game. While ESO certainly isn't a "WoW clone," it is a Theme Park MMO and it's not the "revolution" some MMO gamers have claimed to want in an MMORPG and in a TES MMORPG. People will eventually see that ESO is not a Skyrim clone or a WoW clone, but rather its own game that is inspired heavily by the franchise and is taking its own spin on the MMORPG genre.

So many games have tried to make WoW clone or become a WoW killer. Beth surely knows better, they had 7 years of WoW on the top, it's highly unlikely they will try to offer the same style as in WoW and hope to take their position on the top. It's too early to say that TESO will dominate MMO scene, but I hope they play it wiser than Gw2 and SWtOR.

They are still building the same exact game they have always been. No idea where one would get the notion that all of a sudden they made drastic changes. Just ridiculous. Its simple really, the more info we get the bigger and better picture we get of the game. Initial negativity was a product of little real info and bias, thats its.

So it was no surprise to a lot of us when lots of real good info came out and actual game play hand-ons that it was overwhelmingly positive.
