ESO Gameplay Trailer PROVES its nothing like WoW

Post » Fri Nov 09, 2012 1:01 pm

Hey guys, im sure youve seen the trailer at this point. Ive been VERY vocal on the forums here, since coming back from the ESO Media Event, about how ESO is nothing like WoW.

Many doubts persisted, despite ESOTR's coverage and everyone else's. Now there is a gameplay trailer that shows YOU what this is all about.

My question to you is: Are you still worried its like WoW? If so, why? What do you think you need to see to prove or disprove your concerns?

If you didnt see the trailer, we have news column here that you may be interested in, and the trailer as well:

Looks awesome, just the way I was picturing it in my mind. Animations are probably not done yet, with the game being still in the alpha state.

I can't wait to play!!!

Definitely not a WoW clone. The only thing that's getting me (and some others I've noticed) is that the combat looks very static. I hope (and am sure of) that they are working diligently on adding more animations and motion to the characters in combat. Other than that, no complaints for me. This is truly an ES game.

i am still concerned it will have features that wow has mainstreamed that will cause me to not like it. namely gear treadmill, daily quests, and token grind for armor. i need the devs to tell me that those things will not be in game. short of that i will still worry.

with that said the game looks good. but it doesnt prove anything.

I really admire how much thought you put into this. I think you're 100% correct. As a matter of opinion, I enjoy those things, but wouldnt miss them if a game lacked it, either. However, Im easier to please than most, I think.

We haven't seen anything that would confirm or deny these features being in the game or not. But you better believe ESOTR will be asking ZOS the questions!

I'm with you Luke. I would really like there to be an Elder Scrolls MMORPG that I would enjoy, but so far it doesn't look like this particular title fits that description.

I liked WoW and still do, though I don't play. But from my opinion, this game seems different just by the combat alone. The art style is different as well. It still has the staples of MMO play it seems like battlegrounds, dungeons, raids, blah blah blah. But as we all know, WoW did not create those.

It's not a WoW clone, it's not a WoW killer, it's not just another game who wants to be good as WoW. The only similarity between WoW and TESO is "MMORPG" title. Combat, world, servers, quest style... Not even similar.

Was it ever going to be?

I'm sure there are plenty of people who want Zenimax to make ESO a 100% Offline Elder Scrolls installment, only with multi player functions. Skyrim online sounds like what you want? Or perhaps Morrowind/Oblivion online, if such things exist? Maybe TES6.

Either way, if you aren't able to accept that this game is going to be different just by virtue of being an MMO, this game has never and will never be for you. Unless you open your mind and use your imagination, of course...
