What about Ranged Combat?

So I just watched the new video and it looked awesome, but I didn't see any bow or crossbow users. I'm hoping ranged combat doesn't get put in as an after thought, as it's my preferred play style. I don't want it to be overpowered either. In some of the games I've played it seems like melee gets the most attention with animations and weapon choices. I really enjoyed using a bow primarily in Skyrim and I'm really hoping to use a bow as my main weapon in ESO.

I guess what I'm hoping for is:

1. A feeling that there was as much time and care given to ranged combat as melee combat in terms of skills, animations, and weapon choice

2. Not feeling like I have to use a sword & board or dual wield to put out the "best" dps

3. Combat is balanced for ranged and melee (neither one being overpowered against the other)

In some of the past games I've played there have been long debates about the effectiveness of ranged combat vs. melee combat. I feel like SWTOR did a pretty good job with the sniper/gunslinger class compared to melee users. They have good mechanics in place to deal with melee combatants and melee combatants have tools to help close distances when dealing with them as well. I never played Guild Wars 2 so I can't speak to ranged combat vs. melee in that game. Maybe some others could shed some light on how/why they feel ranged should be balance with melee.

I guess I'm just hoping ranged combat doesn't get put on the 'back-burner' so to speak.

Just from my own personal observation, combat is still heavily in development. It looked messy in the trailer, and ZOS is still perfecting how exactly the targeting system will work. They are hoping to try and make it as real-time as possible where the player aims, but we'll see what we get. I have a feeling ranged combat isn't in (or at least being shown) precisely because of this reason and they are still working on combat.

agreed with Master Chief, it has been mentioned the targeting is still being worked on. With such massive battles it might even prove impossible to track real projectiles.

I, as well, hope combat is real-time. Auto targetting is too WoW-esque (and other MMOs for that matter), and it's time to change the norm.

I'm hoping that ranged combat is lavished the same care and attention that melee combat is obviously being lavished with. Personally, I'd like to see the return of thrown weapons but I'm not going to hold my breath on that one :)

I hope ranged combat is implemented well, but I doubt they would allow zoomed in aim like in skyrim
