Jon Irenicus character build...

Post » Sat Nov 10, 2012 12:32 pm

I was tinkering around with the idea of building a sorcerer character designed after Jon Irenicus from Baldur's Gate 2, with a bit of tweaking.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm going with Nord for the build, as I am pretty much designing him with Dragonborn in mind, whenever it will be released (PC). Plus, its easier to get the right look.

Since most of my levels will be going into magicka, I was thinking about dawning heavy armor, as there are some images of Irenicus in heavy armor, though he usually kind of resembles Vivec in attire, haha.

I'm not sure which schools of magic I should focus in, either. I will probably use the Atronach Stone for the magicka boost and to use enemy mages for power sources. Here's what I'm thinking:

Destruction
Illusion
Alteration
Restoration
Maybe enchanting, as I will need cost reduction gear. However, I don't plan on wearing a headpiece, so there shouldn't be any worry about 100% boredom.

Here are the two different concept art pieces.

Actually, after toying around a bit, I was able to make a good looking Altmer fit (except for the ears, of course, even though Irenicus is technically elven...and the skin tone).

Feh! If hide and studded armors didn't have that "skirt" or whatever, they'd be pretty good, too.

Altmer is probably the best fit, and probably lends itself better for a magic build. You might also consider Breton as well...skin tone may not match, but you wouldn't have the ears or elven eyes issue then.

Destruction and illusion certainly would be Irenicus' top magic schools, with alteration as a third. Restoration would probably be a distant fourth. Not sure where enchanting would fit in. I wouldn't forget conjuration either, but it wouldn't be as important to your build as destruction/alteration/illusion.

Also: staffs. Lots of magic staffs. I seem to recall Irenicus making use of staves in BG2, but my memory may be faulty. Destruction and illusion should be your main combat focus though, especially going off the wiki description of him:

Irenicus is clearly able to cast spells of the ninth level or even beyond, and often disintegrates or detonates enemies in an instant—a display of his power is given in Waukeen's Promenade, where he dispatches several assailants with his powerful magics. Irenicus commands some spells that are not even available to the Player Character and his or her party, a notable example being Rapture of the Father, a death spell that appears to be able to instantly kill six enemies with no regard to magic resistance or saving throws, and a cloning spell with which he clones the main character and his friends to keep them occupied while he makes his escape.

I'll definitely be using staffs. There are several cool unique staffs. Hag's Wrath, Sanguine's Rose, Staff of Magnus, etc.

I'd also go with Altmer or Breton as well - Wasn't he from Suldanessalar after all? I'm currently staring at him, on the poster right above my monitor. He wears a mask, the human looking face does not seem to be his real one.

He never used staves, only his two empty hands. I don't really think you can make an Irenicus build because he was really just a mage, but stupidly powerful. A Bodhi build though, now that's something I can see being done.

It's been a while since I played that game, but wasn't he an elf?

Wasn't he an elf? Altmer for sure as race.

Heavy into illusion spells. Have some pet sprigins (since there aren't any Dryads or Nymphs in Skyrim ... dang it). He would rock it in the vamp robes.

Yes and no. :P

He was an elf, but had everything that essentially made him an elf stripped from him as a punishment.
