Books in game that players can write...

Post » Sat Nov 10, 2012 3:17 am

I really do hope they decide to add this feature because what this does is it gives the player the ability to make up quests using books and notes as clues so that players can make up quests for other players to take part in, in the game.

The only MMO I have ever played that had this feature was Ultima Online, and we used it all the time to make quests for players who wanted to join our guild, etc, etc.

In UO there may still be, to this day, books that I wrote when I played that game so many years ago. All that had to happen was that someone still owns the library that I put them in so they don't decay. This allows the player to leave a "leagcy" of their journey and new players can then read those books and find out what took place years ago in the MMO.

Please give us player writeable books, I am begging!

This would be very good to include in the game, but the danger is someone coming along and writing say a book that makes fun of another guild. A filter would be needed or someone to check each book.

I remember that feature about UO. Geez it's been a long time...

I can see them allowing us to do something like this, but when they implement housing so players will have a place to store their books.

In UO even the Seer's, who were regular players who were taken in by the developer to develop dynamic fiction for implementation in the game, and even they used books in their quest to lead players to the objective. To become a Seer you had to apply and take an online interview and if you passed you were given a free account from which you would develop some RP characters and storylines to use to bring your storylines to the game. Your storylines had to be submitted for approval to the developer and once approved they would then implement that storyline on the server that Seer was on. I can remember Seer quests that took the server population a year of real time to complete. It was not a case of if I would log in each day, I simply HAD to log in because my character was a part of this fantastic storyline and if I was not there one night I would miss out on what happened next.

Books just did so much for UO I would love to see them in TESO.

Implementing personal houses for hundreds of thousands of players may be a wee bit tricky, unless we want to see tower blocks littering the skyline of Tamriel.

Really love the book idea though.

+1

Awesome idea!!! For Roleplaying purposes, players should be able to write a book and then share it with friends and other players.

Just awesome idea.

In UO you could buy books of a few different sizes. I think the largest one was 20 or maybe 40 pages. Some players would get very creative and were even able to put pictures in their books by using different symbols like * ^ # , etc.

As for players "throwing around immersion breaking books" just make them decay if they are left outside of a chest...its pretty simple really.

Well I got this book Idea from the very first MMO I ever played Ultima Online, which I did mention in my original post...UO = Ultima Online

That MMO is still going to this day and I played it back in the late 90's and it is still subscription based per month I think.

in the WarZ. players can leave timecapsules around the map. essentially they can write a note and other players can find it. it would be cool to be able to write in journals in caves and other players could find it and read it.

Oh sorry and UO sounds amazing Jarret Cale talked about his time with it.

Cool never knew WarZ had that and it would be cool people making books that lead to others taking you on an adventure.

In UO you could buy a Vendor NPC and place them on the porch of your house, or inside the house if you made it public.

Then you could put items you crafted or found on that vendor for sale to other players.

You could also buy more then one vendor and have a sort Mall atmosphere at your front door.
