Being a Merchant or Publician

I would like it to be possible to make your home public and become a Merchant or Publician I belive this would make a good RP experience and I would enjoy it a lot.

My intuition tells me it's very unlikely the housing we get (once they implement it) will be open world - more likely to be instanced. But I have an idea - what if players could hire instanced buildings in cities/towns - you'd click on door to get a list of instanced merchants (players) - listing their tagline (so you could write "gems + iron armour" etc to tell people what you're selling). They'd click your tagline and enter your instanced version of shop to buy from you.

It's an interesting idea, but I don't know where they'd physically fit thousands of player houses in-game, even with phasing...

It does seem to me that even when housing is implemented, we are all in some way or another members of the military (at least, that happens at level 10 when we can enter Cyrodiil and PvP), so life as a bartender, merchant, or farmer or trader would be quite the stretch RP-wise.

Good point. I forgot that it was mentioned that we were affiliated with the military.

i think they coulld have certain doors in towns. and when you click it you'd go into 'your home'. it would be an instance. and everyone would share the same doors. but it would still feel like you are living in that town. much akin to skyrim.

i like the merchant idea. but i dont see it happening. at least not at launch.

I dunno, you could always RP amnesia or defection from the military.

True, but the game would likely not support that, since guards wouldn't arrest you for defecting...

Personally, I like as much of the "make believe" eliminated from RP as possible. I RP what my character is, not what I wish them to be, so I never RP as a badass unless they are max level and heavily geared, hehe.

That's true, you could play as a war profiteer, haha!
