Voice Bug, One Year Later

Post » Mon Nov 12, 2012 12:03 am

Still hasn't been fixed!

My male Dunmer was afflicted with a female voice - whenever he power attacks, takes damage, etc., the female voice file is used. It's weird because he started out with the male voice, and then the files switched on him after several levels of play. I even started the game over and remade the character from scratch, and the same thing happened again.

I recently came back to the game after a hiatus of many months, and was disappointed to find that this bug apparently still hasn't been fixed! I originally http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1263449-male-dunmer-has-female-voice/ and others were having the same issue with other races. I'm surprised that it was never addressed by Bethesda or the mod community. At this point the bug is so annoying that I find myself not wanting to play the game at all.

Many voice replacer mods have been made, but I don't want a new voice for my character. I just want a mod where I can "replace" the original files so my character sounds as intended. Or for someone who understands the filesystem to help me make the mod myself. I'd even be willing to start the character over again if I believed that the issue was fixed for new save games. But there's no reason to believe that, is there?

Thanks for reading. Z

He doesn't have a female voice; it's just somewhat high-pitched. You sound like Ondolemar and other haughty High Elves.

Incorrect. The character starts the game with the male voice and at some point it starts using different files. It is clearly the voice of the woman who portrays all the Dark Elf women in the game.

I have actually "fixed" this issue before by using showracemenu to change the character to something else and then back ... but then the voice changes to female again after a few minutes. (Also, using showracemenu in this way breaks the character. That's another reason I had to start him over last year.)

Thank you for the reply though

My Wood Elf was also voiced by Ondolemar, didn't spoil the playthru though.

He said he's a Dunmer, not an Altmer. I had a Dunmer I played with for quite some time and although he sounded like an elf, he didn't sound like a female elf.

Can you verify that you're using the female audio instead of the male? IF that's the case, can you simply copy some files around in whatever folder the PC uses for audio? I've never had this problem, and I logged dozens of hours on the character. Are you sure it's not on your side? Have you used ANY mods that have messed with audio?

Thanks for the reply, Chief.

I can use fraps or something to show the voices if you want, but I promise, I know the difference between the two.

The really weird thing is that ~showracemenu worked - temporarily - back when I first had this problem. My character would be grunting in a manly way, and then a minute of testing later he'd be back to the woman voice.

I don't know where the sound files are ... help with that is just the kind of thing I was hoping for  But even if I knew where they were, I wouldn't want to replace the female files with the male ones, or all the females in the world might start sounding like men when I fight them!

As for mods, the problem started last year, long before I ever used a single mod. I've installed many mods since, but none that mess with audio that I'm aware of.

A few others have had this problem, too (with Nords and Imperials that I know of as well as Dark Elves), so it's not unique to my system.
