Apparently, the game is not registering dropping people as completely dropping them. Now this problem has some things in common: the knocked out guards register as hitting a wall with thrown force even though I'm trying to drop them and keep them propped up and off the ground. Instead, it's like I've dashed their brains and skulls against cobblestone. Blood and a splat occur. When I check the bodies themselves, the game registers them as unconscious. I finished the prologue/sewers and the mission stats register as no-one killed. The problem is that this is the exact same scenario as three other people in a PS3 thread on GFAQs and they kept going. The game registers these people as killed.
Please test this when possible and let us know if it's something like
