Steward's Dialog (Gregor) will not show up

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 8:18 pm

I have built the house on the Pale and Gregor was automatically assigned to me as Housecarl (i was already Thane of Dawnstar).

The options to make him Steward was showing and i said yes, however after that i haven't had any of the other so called options from getting Bards to animals...none of them show. He seems to be doing his service as Steward since if i choose "Part Ways" he says he will wait on my Pale House and defend it.

Could be a MOD conflict??...i using UFO companion but i turned it off and it didnt improved...

I am actually considering killing Gregor so i can get a new steward..............

PS: I pretty much used console commands to build my house...i never went buying wood on merchants and so on...that quest is still on my Miscellaneous.

I have UFO and I'm having the same problem on a new game. It worked fine with Lydia the first time, but now, in a fresh game, once I make her or anyone else a Steward the Steward Dialog won't appear. Also I cannot dismiss any of the new housecarls once I ask them to follow me.

is it confirmed that if UFO is removed the dialogue will appear? I have tried removing it that but it didn't work, but i didn't start a brand new game. would be willing to start a new character if it's necessary.

Try this--I've confirmed that it works with UFO:

Have a second follower
Make your steward non-essential.
Open the console and use the "kill" command on the steward.
Ask the surviving follower to become your steward.
Dismiss the new steward.
The new steward should now have dialog options

"Resurrect 1" on the first steward who should now act like a regular housecarl or follower.

For those of you who were wondering it is indeed a conflict with UFO. I completely removed UFO and had to start a new character, but now the steward functions how he should and has all dialogue options, which is exciting for me. I almost tried the new game with EFF to see if that would work with hearthfire, but really didn't want to get a few hours into the game to find out it would not function. So yeah, long story short is it's time to move on from UFO if you're still using it.

I'm not dropping it until I find another way of making followers essential and allowing them to relax...

I did comment on EFF's discussion on the nexus. the mod author states it works with hearthfire with no conflicts, and that he uses hearthfire himself. I just didn't want to risk it. I will be adding EFF once the house is fully developed and I no longer need the steward dialouge myself.

We have PC players on the forum who play Hearthfire and use the UFO mod so it must be possible to get them to work together. Maybe dismiss all followers before you start building and then get your steward before anyone else. You are not meant to have any other followers when you ask a follower to be steward.

Might not work for everyone but I discovered that you have to dismiss your steward before the steward dialog shows up. So the console killing of the previous failed steward might not be necessary.

However, the problem of other followers not waiting and not leaving when you dismiss them continues.
