After completing the quest "Beyond Death" and obtaining the first Elder Scroll (Blood) I spoke to Serana about the second scroll (Dragon) and she kindly pointed me towards Urag gro-Shub at the College of Winterhold. I spoke to Urag gro-Shub which completed the quest "Scroll Scouting" and opened up a new quest called Discerning the Transmundane.
Now having finished the main (Skyrim) quest with a previous character on another play through I can say 100% that this appears to be the exact same quest with the exact same goal. The weird thing is that I have barley even played through the main questline with this character, and cannot see how this has been triggered off by playing through the Dawnguard DLC.
Are we really meant to replay or complete parts of the main quest in order to continue with the Dawnguard DLC or is this a bug?
Update: Just located this information on The Elder Scrolls Wiki page. Looks like you do indeed have to complete this part of the main quest to continue with the Dawnguard DLC if you have not done so already.
