Dawnguard Broken?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 1:10 pm

Alright so I paid the $20 for Dawnguard. Was rather excited to get back into Skyrim. Loaded up the game, made a whole new character to go with. Got to lvl 15 and decided to start Dawnguard. So I went in. I saw a crossbow and thought it was cool instantly. Only problem, all the walking animations, idles, and killing move animations were missing! That svcks. Maybe I can avoid the crossbow (I later downloaded the behavior files that were supposed to be included with the DLC). So I started the quests. I got into the Cavern where I had to stab my hand. My character got stabbed and then turned into a see-through ghost. Weird. I couldn't use the mouse anymore. I got through moving the braziers because I could sneak, but then Serana's animations didn't load and I couldn't walk. I got really frustrated. I went online and downloaded the proper animation and behavior files, which for a second time, were not included with the DLC download on Steam (or my download screwed up, but I paid $20 for an incomplete version of Dawnguard, svcks). Now I get to Volkihar Keep, ah cool, I wanna be a vampire. I get the info from Serana and shes like "Lets go inside." So I go to click the door. Nothing happens. I look at this "Press "E" to enter." Nothing. I try 500 more times, nothing.

This is rediculous. Did I get a alpha copy of the DLC? Why is my copy not complete and working as intended? Why did it cost $20? If I didn't close the game my keyboard would've been launched across the room. Seriously, this is rediculous.

Aside from that, anyone know how to fix this? For the load order the dawnguard.esm I put under Skyrim.esm. Is there another I should load prior, like update.esm (which I believe is the 1.6 update) or should i get the 1.7 beta? How do I fix this? Bethesda is not replying to any emails I send them which is aggrevating me even more...

Right click on your game in your Steam library, go to properties, then to local files, click 'verify integrity of game cache'.

I haven't had that many problems with DG but I recognize some of the problems OP is having. I've already done a few quests for the vampires but yesterday most of my controls and menus suddenly stopped working yesterday. I can still look around and escape still works, as does wasd, jump, sneak, toggle walk and sprint, but I can't open menus or my map or pull up my weapons nor can I interact with anything (NPCs, doors etc). Dunno what caused, I was walking around and suddenly everything stopped. Really weird.
I also have the bug where I revert back from vampirism after turning into a Vampire Lord and back, so I have to use to console every time to change myself back into a vampire.

I know mods screw up DG and I did have a lot of those, as well as SKSE and ScriptDragon... I'm doing a complete reinstall of the game and play with no mods/third party programs whatsoever, see what happens this time. I am loving Dawnguard so far and I'm gonna finish it one way or another! *triumphant pose*
