Maybe it's easier for some people.....

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 9:05 pm

Hello, this is my first ever post. But I've been a long time lurker and Elder Scrolls fan for 14 years or so. So everybody go easy on me haha.

Maybe the new add on will be generally easier for people who don't have a PC with access to mods roleplay a character. I've noticed countless threads about individuals who have a hard time fitting in the role of a character and roleplaying their life. Now it looks like there is baking (thumbs crossed for maybe a cooking perk tree), farming, beekeeping, fishing of sorts, etc. I can roleplay to an extent, but have a real hard time getting real into it.

Now I could own a fish hatchery by day, treasure hunt by night. It seems to me that Bethesda is gradually bringing back good roleplay aspects which in my personal opinion is needed.

Well open to a nice civil discussion so share your thoughts.

I really hope at some point they go all out and just make a game where u just decide what u want to be. But made by bethesda. I like to attempt to rp but like you I find it hard to get into. Allthough I did well with a vampire woman. Created a backstory in my mind. At some point I want to make a character that doesant fight. And just does everything else like a normalish person.

Hope they had some way of making income just of your land. I'm quessing you can like grow produce. But (THIS WON'T HAPPEN) it would be so cool if somone comes to your home/farm whatever, every week and picks up the produce and sells it themself. Or anything similar to what I just mentioned. So like an offical beekeeper/fisherman/Taxidermist. Wow, lol just though of a rp character weird cabin type thing.. with a basemant and the character being a canibal or vampire basemant filled with basemants or at least flesh. To make it seem like your whole family is canibals. (Fallout 3 Andale)

in every rpg that ive played I always aspire for getting the most expensive property in the game with the most expensive furnishings, move my family in (if the game allows families) and just spend the rest of the game around that town

That would be great if there was an option for you to send your spouse to town (with a couple bodyguards of course) to sell whatever products you harvest or farm. And also maybe you would have to pay some sort of tax to get rid of the ridiculous amounts of septims you earn in this game

I've always wanted to roleplay a Prisoner, but Bethesda just will not make a game where I can fit that part in.

I seriously doubt they will add a cooking perk tree. :ermm:
Anyways, I really think this DLC is a good immersion enhancer as you put it. However, the attitude of some of these people is just... confusing. Skyrim lacks RP elements, bash it to death (Understandable, there really are things that are missing, but sheesh), and now, Hearthfire is announced, "Skyrim is becoming a Sims game!!!" :stare:

I personally did made a character once who doesn't fight at all.. His major skills were Illusion, Conjuration, and Restoration. And he just stayed in towns most of the time, doing small and fun stuff like that.

Lol, im not on the pc so unless a mod like this happened this isent going to happen. But it would be cool to be one of the citizens in helgen at the start witnessin the executions and the start of the vanilla game. And you're going out to trade with riverwood at the time and thats how you survive. So in effect you're playing a character who doesant level up. But can use any weopans it finds just like the normal game. But will allways have 100 magicka 100 stamina and 100 health, unless finds items that inhance those. (So in short you play a character that will allways find it hard to get by unless he/she stays in towns and whatnot)

Something like this may be included as the steward can fetch things for you, so maybe he can sell things. One can only hope.

Yes! And that is awesome. When I first saw the trailer, I was like "Man, now I can totally fuss around even more than I already do!" That whole doing whatever you like is the appeal of TES for me. Just letting me kill dragons or bandits or whatever when I need a break from my real job of collecting butterflies and bird eggs. Doing non-fighting stuff is fun in its own way.

It's funny: some people think this will lead to TES devolving into the Sims or some nonsense. I've never understood this mentality of "I don't like it/use it/ need it so it is useless".
There are other people in the world (and other customers) and Bethesda obviously realizes there is nothing wrong with that.

We've been able to cook, make stews and other dishes since Skyrims release. An oven would just add another place to do so. Maybe we could bake sweet rolls now.

I've not spent much time on cooking but have on occasion in game because it does help increase my alchemy skills and my character is all about alchemy and destruction.

There quite a few new things to cook in this http://content.gamesas.com/bsw_cms_asset/25998_2_1.jpg.

It's always been the way of ES games to allow you complete freedom to create and be any character you want, but never adding in activities and gameplay to support it. I've never begrudged them this as the amount of work they do already is incredible, and the size and scope of the games they provide are consistently exceptional, plus, let's face it, there is only so much stuff they can add to a game before releasing it. If they always added every last thing they wanted, they'd be making $300,000,000 games once every 10-15 years that would take us about 6 years of play to see everything. There comes a point when a game has to be finished, and as the games have always been awesome, I've been good with it.

I won't deny it though, I've always wanted something like this, and was disappointed that the house DLC for Oblivion were pretty bland. This though, as you say OP, really does allow for greater roleplaying. I talked it over with my gaming buddy (we played Skyrim in tandem, constant communication over Skype, him on PC, me on 360-using laptop for skype) and we agreed that this is the perfect addition for us. We started new characters a few months back that haven't had much play yet, they're hunters that we're roleplaying to be self sufficient, living off the land etc, not charging out, questing and saving the world on a weekly basis. We've added a lot of fun restrictions on ourselves for this playthrough, but the one thing we truly wanted was a home we could build for ourselves to use as a base of operations. It started out when my mate used an empty house in the hills near falkreath as his home so to speak (it's an open one with a lot of bones in it and a Sabrecat, who is clearly meant to have killed and eaten the previous tenant). He started off by kicking all the bones down the hill to the river, then proceeded to put little touches to it, decoration around etc. After a couple of in game days though, it reset, he lost his stuff and the Sabrecat was back. It got us wishing we could lay claim to these empty buildings and fix them up a bit, actually create our own little homes out of them. These are even better though, as not only do we get houses, but we can build them the way we want and we have to find and use the materials ourselves (this has been one of, if not my biggest wish so far, wanting a reason to use materials, a reason to chop wood etc). We're thrilled because the biggest obstacle to our hunter roleplaying has been overcome thanks to this DLC. Just a shame I'll have to wait a month to play it because of that damn silly 30 day exclusivity deal (yes I'm a 360 player, and I hate it too).

Now, if only they would take this idea one step better in the future and let us start building and designing a full settlement in the same way......(HINT HINT, PLEEEEAAAAAASSSSEEEEEE).

I think that your spouse continues to run the store even after taking up residence at your house. Just sell the crops/fish/honey/whatever else you don't want to them. You'll get money, and they'll presumably sell it.

More room and facility to roleplay is always a good thing in an RPG.
A cruicial aspect of a sandbox RPG is to be able to explore at random, wander your own path, collect what you want when you want and not have it break something in the game.
Once Bethesda manages to do that it will be a step in the right direction.

I love hunting for bird eggs! Sometimes when i enter a battle, hear the music, and see the little red dots, I'm like " Oh man, not this thing again. Leave me alone so I can catch bees!!!!"
