I last saw them (they are both following me) just outside Irkngthand.
I've tried waiting, fast travelling, and all the rest of it.
Any ideas on how I might remedy this?

Reload a previous save. Also you should have done this with an autosave but if you waited so much you just screwed that up

I had already overwritten the autos by entering the new cells before I noticed they were gone.
