Property tax in Hearthfire?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 4:53 am

I know that implementing a real economy in Skyrim is hard to say the least, but it would be nice if Heartfire (or a later DLC) introduced a property tax, say 5~10% of the value of the houses you have every 30 days or so. If you don't pay and the debt piles up could mean that the local Jarl could confiscate your house.

I think that this would keep people invested in the game. For example, after 250+ hours I now have more than 100k in cash and around another 200k in gems, enchanted armor etc, so that I no longer loot enemies/treasure chests.

Perhaps the money gathered could be used by the Jarls to upgrade the guards' armor or something?

Comments?

Is the game PC exclusive?

I think this would be a great idea and would make the game more excitingly complex allowing such RP features

I don't think it would be so complicated that it can't also be implemented in the console (360 at least) versions.

Also, another idea would be to have a bank that gives loans etc. Actually I remember seeing a mod about that.

Maybe 200 golds every 30 days would be cool.

I think it would be a great idea. I have too much money and hardly anything to use it for, not to mention all the useless jewelry I haven't sold yet.

Also, I was thinking that since the loot scales (in general) with level, perhaps the tax could scale as well. For example, according to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Housesthe total cost for just the houses is 58000 and around 88300 including the upgrades. Then for the latter case this means that if the tax is 0.25% at level 1 and it scales linearly, then at level 30 it would be ~6622.5, at level 60 ~13245 and at level 81 ~17880.8, which I think would be affordable for most players. Of course a different scheme could be used.

Too bad I'm on the 360 as I can't make a mod for this :(

They could make it, I wouldn't use it.

I'd just start leaving guard heads on my front lawn as warnings.
