When is Bethesda fixing Dawnguard?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 3:45 am

Ok hello i recently spent money on this amazing looking DLC and it really was worth the money untill the end of the questline (SPOILER): obtaining auriel's bow at the end of the sanctum in the forgotten vale.

Somewhere in that place my game froze for the first time since i bought skyrim (400+ hours played before that) and it has been CTD'ing + occasionally freezing since then. (every 10-30 mins)

I removed all mods and tried so many things like verify game cache, run steam offline, run with gamebooster, check if drivers were up-to-date etc etc nothing has worked.

Then i had the idea of making a new game (to check if it really was dawnguard causing this). I just made an orc and played flawlessly for about 2 hours no crashes or anything.

I believe it is quite obvious where the problem lies and it is in a money-costing bethesda unfunctional product and it's not like i'm the only one having problems, there are complaints everywhere.

I sincerely hope they are working on a patch for this or find a way to refund the money (i heard fraud is illegal)

No complaints here. It's been a flawless game since day one.

OK somehow miraculously the CTD's have stopped now after i de'installed all mods and installed one mod that removed random remaining objects in skyrim like arrows etc.

I think it has to do with the game save files getting too big (mine is 15.2mb now) so i don't really know how long i will be able to play.

I also run it with gamebooster i heard it helps vs the visual c++ error

You may have answered your own problems there...If the CTDs stopped after you uninstalled all your mods, then it's likely that it was a mod conflict causing the issues, or a bad load order. Your save file size isn't a problem...I wouldn't call 15.2mb a bloat. There have been some saying that they've got bloats above 30mb (Sounds of Skyrim mod has largely been named as a key cause of bloating in 1.7/DG). I am currently sitting at 15.0 mb, and have no CTDs other than legitimate DG crashes (during Awakening quest).
Besides, the more you play Skyrim - whether it's vanilla or modded, DG or not - the larger your save game will be.

If you want your old mods, activate them one by one and see if it causes any problems. If they don't, you can leave them activated. If they do, check for an update on that mod, if none, deactivate it and wait for the modder it update it.

This is a good place to find which mods are known problems and which aren't: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1402912-dawnguard-the-mod-compatibility-list/

I've encountered many bugs in dawnguard, luckily nothing game breaking. The biggest problem I have is that after finishing the MQ and dismissing Serana I can't make her follow me again.

you've got further than i have lol, plus im sure if you were in the UK you could demand a refund due to a faulty item and then if they dont take them to small claims.

pre patch 1.7 custom configs that worked without issue dont function aswell with patch 1.7 so delete your .ini's and start with a fresh default config.

Also check you system to make sure its functioning A-OK, if it errors at all you'll start seeing issues. If you dont have the knowledge to check you system for 100% CPU/RAM stability take it to a technician who can help you.

also you didnt mention your system specs or whether you overclock.
