Breezehome is now bugged in Dawnguard

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 12:00 am

How many others here are having this issue? From what I read elsewhere its unique to those who have begun a new game file with the Dawnguard expansion installed. After purchasing Breezehome from the Jarl's steward in Whiterun I can buy all of the home decorations except for the alchemy laboratory. He will continue offering the option and will take my money each time, but the alchemy laboratory is never installed in the house.

I hope this is an easy fix for Bethesda in the next patch and that I don't have to start over again to get it...

Same here. Started a fresh character with Dawnguard and went to buy Breezehome and same thing happened. I reloaded before and same thing happened again. I actually forgot about that bug since I've moved to Solitude now.

This a know bug, it has been reported here several times. It also got reported during the beta, so it must be in Bethesdas bug tracking system.

The solution is to uninstall Dawnguard. reload the save game buy the upgrades to Breezehome and then reinstall Dawnguard. I did this and it worked.

The only thing is I redid the entire purchase of a home and all of the upgrades. I don't know if it works if you try to load a game where you already have the house and just need to buy the alchemy upgrade. Others here can probably confirm that part.

Obviously reinstalling Dawnguard will wipe out any Dawnguard progress you have made already (quests, items etc).

OK, so within the first hour or two of playing my new file after installing Dawnguard, I was randomly approached in Riverwood by an orc Dawnguard recruiter which began the Dawnguard quest for me. If I uninstall the expansion, buy my alchemy laboratory and reinstall it, will this guy come back again? I just don't want to make an even bigger mess by trying to fix this little Breezehome glitch and somehow not let myself begin the Dawnguard questline or something.

I'm also not a fan of the random vampire raids that put the merchants and questgivers in peril, but I hope I get another one rather quickly because I REALLY don't want to give up these sick vampire armor & boots that I looted off a dead vamp. :<

Uninstalled Dawnguard, bought the upgrade and reinstalled it. Works fine now, but I lost a few of my new items. I hope it didn't mess up anything else.

Having that problem, hope it gets fixed soon. Haven't started alchemy on this new toon yet though, but annoying none the less.

I haven't been able to buy that house on any character I have. 3 characters made, 3 times the game couldn't get Blood on the Ice right. Yes I know the requirements for the quest. My game however does not.

Wait, we can uninstall Dawnguard after making a save with that data? I was under the impression that the game wouldn't allow us to load that save up without the DLC.

As far as I know you will get a warning saying that the save contains data/content no longer available and will ask you if you wish to continue. It will basically remove all Dawnguard content and you can continue on as if the DLC isn't installed.

There was a bug in Oblivion where players would enter a DLC house, save, remove the DLC, reload the game and then they would be in some bizarre testing area for the game.

Thanks for that. I'm off to uninstall. I was getting tired of walking all the way from Winterhold to Windhelm to sell my stuff (I only fast travel with carriages. No carriage = walk)

No no no...dont go doing this uninstall garbage...youll just solve one minor annoyance thats not long for this world and create ten more.

Just make your potions up at Dragonsreach till Bethesda nails it.

And dont give Avenichi any septims!

I get the same issue, no matter how many times I reload, or remake a character. Guess I'll buy everything but the alchemy lab. But I did notice that even though I have not started the Dawnguard DLC Vampires are popping up in the cities and villages. Had a few important people to quests and shops end up dead. I play it on the XBOX 360 btw.
