Co-op and Multiplayer

Hi there Id soft/Beth,

It is super incredible that you are re-making my favorite game of all time. Also the game that I have put in over 40+ days worth of my life on the multiplayer as well, on the original xbox version. I am also expecting to match that number on the new version as well. Ever since they shut down the original xbox live servers, we have all been searching for the new "doom 3" that we will all flock to and enjoy like the paradise that doom 3 was, but it never happened. I really can't thank you enough, along with 32 other original community members from the original xbox doom 3 community as well. But there are things that I am greatly dissappointed with....

First of all, you only made it 2-4 players online. Id software, you are the gods of first person shooters, and incredible multiplayer, how is it that you couldn't even upgrade the game to 2-6 players or even 2-8 players for that matter. Many of us were looking forward to doing upscale clan matches back on our fav game, but looks like it will be team doubles....

Second of all, it looks like you will only be including 8 multiplayer maps, when with the maps from RoE and Doom 3, there is well over 10 maps. What the heck?

Third, you completely dropped the co-op from the game. What were you thinking?! Honestly, I have some of the best memories of playing co-op in the dark desolate corridors of delta labs with a buddy. So why drop it? I know its not that hard for you gods of gaming.

Also, I pray to god that there is minimal lag, or you increased the quality of the online games. Because, Q3 arena arcade's online svckED!

I, and many other people that are looking forward to this game, would most likely be very happy to pony up some dough for future dlc. Hell, instead of paying $40 for this, I would gladly pay over $100 for a fuller version.

So please, I beg of you, bring us some dlc, or you will be letting down an entire community.

OK, here goes.

This is not a remake.
This is not a major release.

This is a minor re-release, with some jazzed-up extras. It's not Tomb Raider Anniversary, so get the idea out of your head that it's anything like that. It has more in common with the director's cut of a movie, or a remastered CD with some bonus tracks.

Co-op wasn't removed. It's based on the original PC version and the original PC version never had co-op. If it was a remake or a major release then adding co-op may have been an option. It's neither of those two so - in limited time with a list of things to get done - co-op obviously wasn't an option.

Likewise the 4 player MP limit; that was the limit in the original PC version so that is also the limit in the minor re-release with jazzed-up extras which was based on the original PC version.

Likewise DLC. You don't have an entitlement to DLC and I'm sure that the entire community doesn't really care overmuch about it, in the context of this minor re-release. The entire community wants Doom 4; this is just a minor re-release to act as a placeholder and pave the way for Doom 4. If it was a major release then it would be appropriate to ask about DLC. It's not a major release though.

Time spent adding everybody's personal favourite want-list item or pet feature means more time waiting for this minor re-release and less time available to work on the next major release (Doom 4).

I never said that I think it would. I have no idea whether it will or not.

The point is that the place for major new features is a new game, and that new game is Doom 4. What those major new features are - we don't know. Doom 3 BFG is just a fun experimental thing, with some bonus content to help entice those who already have the game (and to justify charging for it), but it's not a platform for such radical changes. And so far as the PC version of Doom 3 is concerned (which - again - is the version that BFG is based on), adding co-op is a major new feature because the PC version of Doom 3 never had co-op.
