Voices sound volume

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 3:40 am

Hi,

I'm having trouble playing Dishonored with my headphone.

When I play with my 5.1 system, everything works fine.
When I plug in my headphone, the sound of the voices is very low and have strong reverbs.

I've tried to change the Windows settings of my Realtek HD Audio controller (it was 5.1 and now Stereo), but nothing changed...

I have no problem with any other game or video/music playback.

Any idea ?

Thanks for your help

Any idea ?

I think there's a tab in RAC for headphones that's separate from the other tabs. Try to fiddle around with that one. Another thing to check is that your headphones are properly plugged into the jack-- wiggle it around a bit and see if anything changes.

I think there's an option for sound in the game's options menu, make sure that has been set accordingly.

Anyway, i find the positionnal audio inferior to let's say Skyrim, am i the only one? The voices are kind of concentrated in the central channel, even coming from far away guards chatting behind me i can still hear them in front...

- my jack is properly plugged-in.
- in the game option, you can only adjust the voices volume.

I played a little more and it appears that the voices of characters in front of Corvo are very low, but the one on the side are normal.
-> game is forced to 5.1 or something like that ?

Make sure you change your windows settings to Stereo when you have your headphones plugged in.

If you right click on the speaker icon on the desktop in the bottom right, select Playback Devices. Choose headphones and make sure they're your default audio device. From there, you can move to the advanced tab and change the settings to Stereo.

it looks there's the same problem in Skyrim with the Realtek Audio driver!

I forgot where I saw this (credit to you, unknown source!) but if you have Realtek onboard sound and are using stereo speakers or headphones, switch the speaker configuration to 5.1 and uncheck the center channel / sub / rear speaker options

After many tries, I finally downloaded Realtek R2.70 drivers from their website.
now it's working fine. All the sounds that should come from the center channel are played through both left and right at normal volume :)

alright, finally it seems it didn't work because of the pop-up window appearing when you plugin the headset.

When this popup appears, if I check the "headset", then the sound doesn't work (no voices from center).
If I check the box "don't show that popup" (I don't know the exact text in english), then whenever I plug my headset in, it works fine
