Opinions on the end

I personally loved the ending but maybe it was because it was like the story I created was being finished conclusively. How did you guys feel?

I liked it. It was real, they didn't do a generic "fight the op guy who gave you your power" thing that has been overused in games and shows alike. It was nice and blunt.

Although I would've liked for them to leave a little cliffhanger or something, because I would really love to see this as a series.

Only thing I was expecting and didn't get was a fallout stye narration touching on EVERY SINGLE DECISION I ever made in the game. But I got a pretty sweet art gallery that did basically that. I was hoping to have some of my actions villainized by emily (Giving Lady Doyle away as a slave or letting slackjaw do what he did with the Pendletons especially) but apparently she never learned of my way of disposing of people

Massive High Chaos (Dark Ending) spoilers. Read at own risk.

Spoiler

I killed everything I could. Even innocents. Stabbed and murdered and slaughtered myself through the entire game. When betreayed by Havelock I Proceeded to kill everything up to the point where I could get revenge by killing Martin and pendleton. When Havelock took emily hostage at the end I threw a grenade at them sending their remains down in the ocean as whalefood.

Result?

Fire, blood, disease, despair, pain, death, suffering. A burning disease ridden city with no hope - swallowing itself alive. An empire in ruins at its inevitable death. Basicly nothing couldve been worse.

LOVED IT! :D Only bad thing was that the boatman survived. Damn that Samuel! I cant remember any point where I had the option of killing him.

I had low chaos, and I liked the game a lot, but I got to the tower, expected a big fight, found everyone but Havelock already dead, choked him out and rescued Emily and boom, game over. The lack of a final "boss fight" kinda bummed me out

I was hoping that the Outsider would get an explanation at the end because he seemed to just come out of nowhere, give Corvo powers and there is no explanation at the end as to why he did it or who the Outsider is or what his motives are.

My assumption is that since the Outsider, knows all of the future and the past. He must be incredibly bored when he has all the knowledge of existence. He came to Corvo because Corvo is one of the few people whose future he can't see, Corvo is one of the few people who can change the fate of an entire nation. So as an incredibly bored omnipotent being, he finds people he can't understand or predict interesting.

Spoiler
On a non-lethal playthrough, at the last shrine the Outsider will ask corvo why he took certain actions then tells Corvo "You fascinate me."

The Outsider is basically the Devil.

Except, he's also God.

Think of him like Q from Star Trek or if God just got really bored and decided to mess with humanity on a regular basis.

I liked it but the game as a whole could of benfited from 3-5 more hours of gameplay. Characters, plot points, and the world could of used a bit more fleshing out to make everything more impactful.

Overall it was pretty good could have been longer but with the good games I tend to think that because they were good. Be nice if they did a dishonored 2. Now that they have down what worked they should keep the good and improve the bad.

I confess, I think the game could have benefited from another 3-5 hours too.

I also wondered why you don't get a chance to confront Pendleton, Wallace, and the guy you rescued individually.

Same here I was thinking that I would go after those people and each one would be an individual mission. I think it would have benefited the story because instead of going after them because someone told you to you have personal motivations to go after them. It also would have benefited gameplay because it would give you a few new areas to explore and chances for more sidequests. Imagine confronting Pendleton in his manor and depending on how you play either the other characters know your coming and are scared and beef up security or if you're stealthy they don't know you killed Pendleton and security is more lax when you go after the others.

I agree. I was really expecting to do three individual missions to take out the three Loyalists that betray you. Even if they weren't new areas, I was expecting to have to go back to the High Overseer's office to confront Martin with beefed up security, track Pendleton down in the Golden Cat, and Havelock in the tower.

Even when I got to the final lighthouse stage and KNEW it was the last stage, I expected to have to track down and deal with the three Loyalists in different areas. Walking in on them all dead and Havelock stumbling around drunk was the definition of anticlimatic. Of course, after they learned Corvo was still alive and coming for them, they probably knew they were screwed. BUT STILL....

Only thing I was expecting and didn't get was a fallout stye narration touching on EVERY SINGLE DECISION I ever made in the game.
I was expecting this too, mainly because the mission debriefing screens kept highlighting the choices I made. I.e. "You chose to save this person." "You freed all these people." "You spared this person's life." etc. I really thought all that was going to be recapped with some screens showing consequences at the end. A shame really.

I agree with this assumption. I also have always liked the "bored omnipotent being" idea. Even more so when the being gives the people the power to make a choice rather then manipulating people into doing what he wants. If I had to give him a DnD alignment I would go with Chaotic Neutral.

I also expected to have to hunt down each of the Loyalists, at least have them in several parts of the base. I was on low chaos and after killing the 3 guards on the way up to the top there was noone. going up that grand staircase felt empty.

Maybe we will see the results of our decisions in Dishonored 2. Even tho the ending showed Corvo dead we can still assume he served Emily for many more years. Plenty of time to have more adventures of Corvo Atano.

I'm all for another mission involving Corvo Attano rather than a new character.

If they do a new character, though, presumably Pierro's mask will play a role.

The darkest ending is when you have High Chaos on all missions, fail to save Piero and Sokolov, kill both Granny Rags and Slackjaw, kill Samuel and let Emily die.

I think it was sort of abrupt.
Considering that I twice thought the game was over, just to learn that there is yet more to play, I don't really think the ending was abrupt...(first after killing the Lord Regent and being in the hands of Daud and his men, giving the game a nice sequel hook, and then after beating the most gorgeous and atmospheric level I ever played in a game, I thought I would find and kill the three turncoats at the pub, just as they want to leave with Emily)

I too thought the game ended when Daud captured you. I wouldn't have minded if it ended there. It would've been a perfect setup for a sequel or some DLC where you join the assassins.

You can kill Samuel at the beginning of the last level. Funny thing is, I jumped onto his boat, stabbed him and dropped him into the water but during the Outsider's end game narration, Corvo is standing next to Samuel's grave looking like he didn't do anything.
