hire guards for your house? : V

ive heard that you can hire people to guard your house, is this true?

I think only your Steward is hire-able for such duties.

I usually have my housecarl for Falkreath, Lydia my steward and Aela my wife walking around outside, they handle most things that try and get to us really

well i have a good steward... how do u get a housecarl?? i think lydia bit the dust on mine cause i havent seen her since day 2 of having the game

Just the housecarl for falkreath, if shes not your follower just just lingers around your house

You get a housecarl for Falkreath now? Does that mean Hearthfire adds Housecarls for each of the new houses? :blink:

I believe it does, im pretty sure one of the housecarls is a mage in one of the holds

But im not sure if shes even supposed to, after I built my basic house she just turned up outside the stable and since then has been wandering round, its the same principal as lydia staying in breezehome i think.

I haven't seen my Housecarl for my House in The Pale yet though, probably because I'm not a Thane yet?

Not sure if Lydia can survive on her own against Giants or leveled bandits, didn't give her good equipment since apparently followers change back to their default armour when not following the player, and if I ask her to follow me now I won't be able to ask her to become a steward again. :confused:

You do have to be thane of the given hold in able to use the housecarl

and just kit her up with some new gear and she should be okay

Alright thanks for the info! I can't give her new gear now because if I ask her to follow me, there's no longer an option to ask her to become a steward again. Probably a bug or something. :pinch:

Gonna get the Housecarl and give him the "guard" job, or perhaps go back a few saves and kit Lydia up. :tongue:

Just tried giving my follower some better equipment, but she defaults to her default equipment after being set as Steward and waiting 2 hours or upon changing cells like entering the house. (I think 1 hour would work as well) So...I really hope the safety of my household doesn't depend too much on the NPCs because I doubt they'll be able to handle giants or bandit marauders very well.

my housecarl from dawnstar killed a giant by himself
he is my stewart now

still cannot get the one in falkreath

well I made Vilkus of the companions my steward for Falkreth but big surprise he wonders all the back to whiterun. after this I made m other 2 house stewards the 2 new housecarls that you get.
