Lost Mission is more like DOOM 12 action than DOOM 3

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 5:37 am

Suprisingly, the Lost Mission is almost pure non-stop run and gun action.... I know it only uses some new voice overs and sound FX and is made from D3/ROE source material, but it still a blast to place. Feels like an honest effort to give a horde of demons coming your way at every corner like Doom 1 or 2 and a faster pace. Anyone else agree? Also, was it id staff who who created the Lost Mission, or was it Bethesda guys or Nerve?

If it's cut-paste, my money's bet on Bethesda.

They were probably levels that were designed by the original designers back when the game was being developed and were cut out before release (thus the title !!)

Just found this article on the http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_3_BFG_Edition that states :

"Doom 3: BFG Edition" is a remastered Doom 3 with a seven-level solo section called, "The Lost Mission," which was cut from the original release of "http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_3."

Do not refer to that wikia site as a reference. It is untrustworthy. The Doom wiki moved to independent hosting a while ago and is http://doomwiki.org/wiki/Entryway. Anyway, no, The Lost Mission are not cut content on which they'd have sat for years upon years. It is new content. I know it's the trendy thing to do, pretend everything ever released was cut from the original game just out of grubbiness, but it is not the case. Otherwise, Doom itself is cut content from Space Invader.

Yeah I've been playing it in 3D mode, and have to stop every 30 minutes are so, gets a little under the skin. The atmospheric FX in the lost mission all sound new, and really draw out the environment. Problem with the 3D was at times was a little too real... if you ever wanted to feel isolated on a mars base with demons running around, kill the lights, turn on the 3D, and bump the audio.

It actually took a few minutes for my mind to come back to reality, lol.

Can't imagine what the VR experience will be like!

foxy: you would be doing yourself a grave injustice if you never play this edition in 3D or the Lost Missions.... definetely makes the cake on this release!

i just finished The Lost Mission and i gotta say it was a truly great new doom experience, i have read this was cut from the original doom 3? i kinda dont believe that, unless they beefed it all upand added stuff , the levels and graphics seem to be much more detailed in light and shadows and textures, it seems like this was made possibly for this release, as an appetizer for DOOM4, whatever the case, this was really awesome and im kinda surprised there isnt more talk of just this Lost Mission , lots of replay ability , i just want to finish up Ressurection of Evil now ,,,, ahhhhhhhhhhhh i love this game

Guys, the Lost Mission was new, not uncut levels, and in interviews they said it repeatedly. Wiki pages are worst places to get your info from. Hell, you don't even need any special permissions to edit or make an account, you just click and start editing. I've had to fix stupid things people have entered.
