should never have released this game

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:36 am

all i can say is what goes through a developers mind to release a game in this state? i have played alphas more stable.

it is poorly optimised for my system, it is constantly having unexplainable "lag" or stuttering spikes, constant graphical glitches, and now it decided to just erase my 5+ hours worth of gameplay after a crash. not only that but because i have it on PC, there is no chance i can get a refund and buy it during a steam sale when hopefuly the game has had its bugs fixed and it is at amore suitable price for a "game", if i can even call it that, (you play a game, i cant play this) of this hirendous buggyness. at least skyrim had mod support and a console command so you can re-do broken and glitched out progress.

i just cannot understand why. i dont think i have had (other than skyrim) any other game that has been so buggy and broken since i got it, and most definately have not had a game that just randomly decides to erase all my save data.

please, bethesda, stop forcing your developers to release games in this state, be more quality assured, you are becoming EA, and one day its going to bite you in the ass.

and Arkane, please fix this, i just dont see how you could have put such a game out in this state. it really is disheartening

Sounds like a hardware problem on your end not something with the game -- From what I have seen the game runs fine having played over 30 hours without a single problem and many others seem to have experienced the same. What are your system specs ?? And as far as the 5+ hours lost - How did you go 5+ straight hours of playtime without incident if the game is such a shambles --- and if you play for 5+ hours straight and don't even save every once in awhile how can that be blamed on the game ??

oh no. trust me i saved ALOT! like, after every kill, i create a new save file. i think that might be the problem. it dosent like uploading that many save files to the steam could, so it has a cry

as for specs, i have an i7 2600k and an ATI 7870 with 4GB ram win 7 64 bit, so im waaay above the reccomended specs.

i know that the poor running is a huge common error for ATI card users. such a shame, as its such a great game, just buggy as hell.

oh and i mean i have played 5 hours on and off, with constant crashes, unplayable lag and bugs where i have to reset the game and tweak the .ini file, so in reality i didnt get very far.

oh and as a side note, due to my computer doing a decent back up earlier, i didnt loose too much  just restored some old saves.

and im not blaming the game. im blaming the devs. 10 years ago if a game even had a handful of tiny bugs, it would be disowned as unplayable, devs just seem to think now that they can release unstable buggy games, then just patch it. thats why you cant get demos of games anymore becuase you would realise how broken they are and not buy them. a real shame that all the online and magazine reviews also never mentioned the bugs :(

oh well thats what i get for going AMD not Nvidia

Edit: i still think this is a very good "game" though, nice to see another decent stealthy / hack n slashy game set in an amazingly realised and interesting world

Yeah, after two AMD cards, I've just given up on them. Now sporting an Nvidia. Think about switching on your next upgrade.

Have you tried using FXAA instead of MLAA?

Playing on a laptop way below the minimum specs, with AMD 5830m GPU, using FXAA with all the other settings maxed. The game looks fantastic even with FXAA and runs very smooth at 1080p. No crashes or hanging so far. When I reload a save, there is a very slight lag for about 1-2 seconds, but other than that no lag at all.

Runs perfectly on my 6870. Literally can't tell it is a port. Actually I have my doubts that it even is a PC port.

Just sounds like there is something wrong with your system. Many people have experienced 0 issues performance wise with Dishonored, few have had crashing problems. But your complaints seem worse than anyones.

As for issues with AMD cards. Only common one is maps not "loading" completely and you have to do the ole 360 spin to get rid of any lag.

you are all right. some times it will run like butter, and yes, it really does at some points look like it was a PC game built for PC, but then it will just lag spike like crazy, which as (lol) BootySweat said, if you can run it on an older laptop, then why cant i run it.

i still just find it bizare that they just cant get a game to run on release date? surely they must have access to newer driver builds? after all there are only about 8 cominations of CPU GPU you can have bewteen AMD, intel, Nvidia and ATI.

as for the 360 spin, that usiually fixes alot, but seriously. thats like saying "oh that car runs perfectly time each time, you just need to drain and refill the carbaretta, pump up the tyres and reill the washer screen bottle each time. its just (in my opinion) not acceptable.
i just also get unnexplainable lag spikes when playing, and not like they are in the same places or caused by the same thing (say a buggy body not quite working out how to slide down some steps)

and finnaly @oof i have litteraly on just upgraded my system to an AMD system. problem is my Mobo can only rock Crossfire, not SLI so if i want to (groan) "futureproof" my machine, as in be able to use crossfire down the line, i had to go ATI. but nearly all graphics cards i have had have been a problem for me. in the past 2 years i must have gone through about 8,all ATI / Nvidia mix, and all blue screeny, buggy and messed up as hell (oh and 2 processors, 3 mobos, 3 cases, 3 PSU's, so not like a mobo or processor problem)

From what I read that lag is a common problem of the Unreal engine on AMD/ATI cards. It seems to happen with other games as well.
I don't see how it is Arcane's fault if AMD is not capable of writing better drivers or building better cards in case that's some kind of hardware issue.

I'm playing Dishonored on an old nVidia GTX275 with maxed details and some .ini tweaks at 1920x1200. I have 60fps most of the time and no lag whatsoever...

I have yet to have a crash in this game. I do have the stutter/low fps issue when entering new areas but it goes away. I run 2 6870's at 1440p on my 27" and the FPS is fine 90+ for most areas capping out at 130 with max settings. And this is running on an FX4100. Below are my rig specs.

FX4100@ 4.5g
16GB DDR3 @ 2000mhz
Crossfire ASUS 6870 DirectCU
Samsung 830 SSD

Runs very smoothly for me on ATI 7970M.... I am yet to experience any crashes, glitches or problems of any
kind (knock on wood). Actually, after experiencing some truly bad ports in the past, I've been quite impressed
with how well-optimized it is.

Wouldn't say its' his system right off hand. I've seen MANY posts, on this forum and others, about crashes with different specs. I can run skyrim, mw3, and eq2 on max settings with no problems, but can't seem to run this. Posted my problem and specs in another thread. Initially it was a driver problem, but that doesn't make it my systems fault. Just means this game isn't very flexible. Hoping to hear from a dev soon with some suggestions, so I can work this out and get to stabbin ppl

OP, maybe it's not your system. It could be Steam.
