Trouble with the Rift land purchase.

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 6:42 am

I received my letter from the courier in Windhelm. The letter stated:

"To our respectable investor,

It seems our expedition to Autumnshade Clearing has met with some resistance from its inhabitants. I know this isn't the first time, but if you would provide us with a few more men and supplies, we are certain the treasure there would yield a return on your investment.

This time for sure.

If not, we could begin searching for prospects outside of the Rift.

A swift reply would be much appreciated."

As you can see it does not say who sent this letter specifically although implying it would be the jarl of Windhelm or Riften. I went to Autumnshade and cleared it, finding no trace of anyone else in the surrounding area. I've attempted to talk to the Jarls and their stewards but am not finding any way to purchase the plot of land. The "How to" does also not mention land in the Rift. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

You can't buy land in the rift. That letter only gives you the location of autumn shade clearing.

That said nothing about purchaseable land.

???

Go to Falkreath, Morthal, or Dawnstar.

The courier had the same speech line as in the video I've seen from people going to Falkreath, Morthal, and Dawnstar though. Right after I installed Hearthfire. Blahhh, ohkay then will do. I wonder what the hell that meant then. .-.

if the courier is giving you the land for sale letter then he says its from the steward, he also gives you the adoption letter along with it.

There's no mention of this on the wikis so... I guess Hearthfire adds it? But why? Is it cut content?

I don't know it's so weird. ._. I don't even think I can confidently play the content until I know what the letter means. I'm hoping others will have the same experience in the next few days.

I've gotten it before, but never by courier. The location is randomized and all it does is give you the location of a dungeon. It hints at there being loot or treasure there and worth clearing out. It has nothing to do with the DLC.

I've usually had to kill the couriers to get the letter.

Woah. Well if that's your experience I understand. I guess it's just a bug? I just reallyy thought it had to do with the dlc considering it was a "clearing" and I found no treasure. Hmm, thanks.

It appears that it's supposed to be on the courier, but never given to you. The location is randomized.
