Doom 3 BFG content as DLC for loyal Doom 3 customers

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:24 am

Is it possible this email could be forwarded to ID so they can start discussions with Bethesta.
The purpose of this is in regards to the consideration of the concept of releasing a reasonably priced (say around AU$20) DLC pack to existing Doom 3 owners. As a value added reward to existing loyal customers.
Especially those that are older than ID as a company, that became fans with Wolfenstien in the early 90's. Such people that own, as well as played to death, every PC game ever written by ID.
I am sure that the new content of Doom 3 BFG edition will make a profitable, as well as keeping the fans happy, will be considered to be a good idea by all that read this (except the haters)...

If you want to send an email, you should use the http://www.zenimax.com/contact.htm. Someone from id might see this post, but there's no guarantee.

I'm interested in hearing how you would document your loyalty.

A nice sentiment, but the engine changes that were done can not simply be done as a "DLC". We are talking apples and oranges here, thats how different the 2 versions are under the hood

Aside from the fact Id would never do it because it doesn't make any business sense the only thing you can really drag and drop into the original d3 is the new levels, X'tyfe had it right when he said most of the good stuff that got changed in the bfg edition is engine modifications.

Also seeing that since the release of the BFG edition they have removed the old version from Steam's product listings it seems more like they want everyone to stop using the old engine and move to the newer version with the new engine so doubtful they would -- though they are offering a discount to those purchasing the new content that have already purchased the old version ( $10 off making the new package only $19.99 US !!) Which is already the same price they charged for the Dawnguard DLC on Skyrim !!

The discount is only for owners of the Steam version, right? No way of showing that we own Doom3 without steam?

Pretty much.
Hey, I'm not happy even with the discount. It should at least be 50%.

Not sure but you could try registering the old game with Steam and then see if they offer the discount.

In this case I'm going to have to say that id don't actually owe you anything for your past loyalty. You paid your money, you got your product, and the relationship ends there. They never asked for loyalty, you chose to give it of your own free will. Anything more would be purely a goodwill gesture on their part, but they're not obliged to give it and you're not entitled to demand it.

Well I have to say this is a very pessimistic thread...

I'd rather they just fix up the BFG edition and add mod support to it.

No thank you, I do not want DLC for an 8 year old game that the Lost Missions should have been in 2005 or 2006, not 2012.

No, it needs HD Texture Pack as a free DLC, like Skyrim.

Yes.

BTW, can anyone tell me if the bfg edition still uses the .pk4's ?

It doesn't, it uses Rage's .resources format, although word is that existing content mods will work, so the .pk4 loader is presumably still in the engine.

In that case, can't people get the wulfen textures and stop complaining? Just wondering ;)
