I have seen three endings. Low Chaos. High Chaos and saved Emily, then I reloaded and watched them fall.
The low chaos ending feels very satisfying, I will admit, after the amount of effort I put in to stay out of sight and put guards down gently. The idea of Corvo looking after the idealistic Empress until he dies at what seems to be a ripe old age is better ending than many i;ve had in games recently. Still, it closing with his grave was a little grim, but that fits the game I suppose. The twin geniouses working together to cure the plague and doing SCIENCE(!) together was fun, even though I still despise Sokolov for what he did to people, such as that girl he had in the cell.
High chaos and saving Emily is actually my least favorite. A sub-par rule of a crumbilng Empire, with a dark and troubled young Empress, even though it seems Corvo and the girl were still close. I am pretty confident by now that while they left a little room for ambiguity, Corvo is probobly Emily's father, and was a (perhaps secret) lover of the Empress. Not that it matters; she is gone, and he is LIKE her father either way. I was just pretty certain by the end. I had already gotten the vibes from the first scene in my first playthrough. Seeing the empire in chaos didn't really inspire anything in me, as frankly thats all we see of the game. Perhaps if they had shown us some of what was lost it might have tugged the guilt/heart strings more.
High chaos, and letting Emily die/failing to save her, was actually pretty interesting in its own right, due to its implications about Corvo. I was excpecting this Corvo to take over the Empire himself, as the evidence of his framing had built up, and there was no one left to stop him. Instead, it implies that either he goes on to have more adventures, or is just fleeing his actions, probobly so that if you let her die intentionally or just dun messed up it fits. I would actually like to see this as the cannon ending if the series was to continue, even if not as a sequal.
High chaos in general, it was interesting to see the changes. Callista dying, as with all the death everyone was at their worst, thus mercy for her uncles sake was not given. Samuel potentially being sick with the plague (though to be fair it could ahve been a cold, we will never know) and disliking you intensely was interesting. I personally killed him as he raised the flare gun, and wonder how the ending might change. It was slightly moving that Corvo regretted it to the point it was an ending scene.
Disapointments: i'm not sure exactly what different varients of the three endings you can get, as i'm sure they change scene by scene, and the Outsider had very little to say in the two high chaos endings, where he seemed to be talking a lot in low chaos. Either way, a lot of choices and character fates were left unresolved. I grew very fond of the common born redhead, Cecelia, and would have preferred if Corvo's one-sided romantic banter had been with her rather than Callista. I wasn't very fond of her character. It would have been nice to know what happened to her. Same with a few others, like the NPCs you save or condemn through the game.
Either way, Dishonored was an awesome game. Hopefully, if it sold well enough, if not a sequel it would be nice to see other games in the same setting However, 23 hours and I am done for now. In six months time or so, i'll do a ghost and blood and steel playthrough, probobly one and the same. I'll also keep an eye out for DLC it he meantime. It would be interesting to play as a female and more civilian character in a DLC mission, to see things from another point of view. Perhaps Cecelia, or someone looking for a plague infected family member.
