Why is corundum so damn expensive!?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 3:31 am

^^ Title.

5 bars can set you back a couple hundred bucks. I need them to make locks for the doors to my homes. Not only that but I need to make two locks?

Hell, why do I even need locks for the doors that are going to be on the inside of the house? You can't lock the doors inside to begin with!

Finding Corundum ore is difficult as it's hard to find. So instead of walking around for hours looking for it it's better to just go to a smith and buy it. But it's too damn expensive! Gold costs less!

Yea thought i'd rant. The only thing I dislike about the new DLC is having to use Corundum to make small ass locks. Makes no sense.

Well I started a new game and built a house at level 8. I'v got quite a lot already but i'm burning through gold rather quickly due to the damn corundum ore issue. My main character has a lot of gold but I don't want to use him to build a house just because then i'd be able to afford all three fully upgraded and still have enough to wipe every ones ass in skyrim. lol

It's probably Beth responding to the 'I have too much money!' complaints.

Soooo your new character struggles for resources and you don't want to use your advanced character because that would be too easy, seems you have undermined your own little rant quite nicely there. ;)

Then they should have made a DLC that allow players to build their own settlements or even re-build Helgan... -____-

I've almost finished, i've furnished the whole house without a steward, and its only set me back around 15000 gold, this is hardly a million... i agree with the above post, people who were complaining about having too much money have got what they wanted.

Not really. The rant is about how expensive Corundum is. Even at a high level. 10 ingots can cost around 1200+. Which is [censored] [censored] when all I want to do is make a damn lock for a door on the inside of a house where you can't even LOCK THE DOORS.

Corundum mining spots can be found literally everywhere.
The UESP prolly has a list.

Alternatively, get the Proweler's Profit.
Youll never be short of cash again :)

There's a corundum ore vein right next to the Pale plot. Saved me some gold :3

But yeah, if it's too expensive...mine it.

It has... http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Corundum
There are a total of 228 veins, 11 ores, and 14 ingots at guaranteed locations.

That would require me to waste a crap load of time wondering around looking for golden boxes some of which probably can't be obtained without having to do other quests first also. Breaking into peoples houses, joining mages guild and a bunch of other crap.

Might have to delete all patches so i can do the gold glitch in whiterun where you put the gold in the chest and take it out really quickly... lol

Or just get a job. You can easily make a few thousand just from one trip to the ebony mine in the Orc stronghold near Windhelm. And easily make a few thousand in a short space of time from chopping wood.

15,000 really isn't that much money.

It's only expensive because now we actually need it for something...

Which I really wish Beth wouldn't do, it's like people compaining about smithing etc. being overpowered. Just limit yourself from levelling it too much or don't use it at all, problem solved !! Throw gold away in respawnable containters if you want to make things more difficult. It's amazing that people compaing about having too much gold. Try playing the Witcher 2, too much is far better than too little.

There's a corundum vein next to whiterun, next to the wall on the west side, nearish to the main gates in fact. There's another vein near riverwood, across the river and along the way to the exit from bleak falls barrow. There's also a whole corundum mine at

That's just what I can recall off the top of my head too, its certainly not too difficult to come by...

This game needs an actual working economy. Let me build my own store and sell things, trade things, buy things from AI who come in. WHY CAN'T I DO THIS?

Because the game isn't designed solely for you. There's probably a mod for this kind of thing if you fancy upgrading to the PC version.
