Do the new housecarls..

Do they keep new armor equiped after being dismissed? The old ones don't keep new armor on and id really like to have Rayya, who's supposed to be protecting my home in the wilderness, to be wearing top of the line armor while on patrols.

If they are like every other follower/housecarl, they will revert to their stock armor when dismissed. However, they can't be killed*, so it doesn't really matter what they wear.

*Your collateral damage in combat can still kill them but you have to be around for that to happen

It would be nice if we could equip them. If you are on PC, there are a couple of mods that let you dictate the followers clothing.

If you enjoy seeing better armor on her, you can always just take one piece of armor away from her, then give it right back, and she will equip the best armor immediately. So while you are at home, you can watch her walking around in the good stuff. When you leave and come back, she will have on her default stuff, but you can just rinse and repeat the trade of armor.

So there's no way of taking their default armor while they're a follower? Then they'd have to wear the good stuff.
Well, that or they'd go around in their skivvies...

Yes, they will go around in skivvies! I found that out by accident, and then I did it with one on purpose....LOL

I played around with Rayya and Gregor. I've been able to give them, say, a pair of boots with a higher normal damage rating which they equip. If you pickpocket their base boots, when you leave and come back they're walking around barefoot.

So what I've done is pickpocket their base armor and enchant it (enchantments that work on followers: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Followers). I give back their enchanted base armor and take back whatever I gave them in the first place. Seems to be pretty stable with no one walking around nekkid.

That doesn't help esthetically but my character feels better knowing they're equipped as best they can be.
