How do you place items on shelves and in display cases? Please be as as descriptive as possible in the process.

It's hard as heck to place things on shelves and in display cases the way you want them. I really wish Bethesda would give those items the bookshelf treatment and allow us to place items in it and the game would arrange them itself...

Before you start spending time redecorating your house, a requirement: Drop everything you intend to move from your inventory, then leave the house. Re-enter, and begin decorating.

If you do not do this, everything you move will be left where you originally dropped the item. I learned this the hard way, and believe me, it's not fun.

There's a huge issue with moving things, because, for some reason, everything in Skyrim is based from the bottom, not the top. When you go to move a candlestick, for example, the damn thing flips upside down, so placing it on a shelf is near impossible without a ridiculous amount of patience (such as bumping it against something else in the hope of flipping it).

I gave up. I don't have the patience for this broken system to decorate my house as I want.

Actually for most items you do not need to flip them to put them somewhere. They have "sticky" bottoms which if you can avoid the edge (which things like to stick to) of what you are trying to put the object on it should easily right itself with a bit of gentle fiddling with the sticks. You just need to have it resting on the surface, usually it ends up on its side, if you move it back (and up with the other stick) slightly it should tip up the right way. If you do not have enough room to manipulate it once you got it up there, leave it and step back a bit before grabbing it again.

Thank you, this helps a lot. Been hunting for this answer for a while now. I wish they had made this a bit easier. Very frustrating at times.
