Castle Volkihar Sidequest glitch work-around

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 6:32 am

Many of us have had a variety of problems with Vingalmo's quests whether it be turning someone who was already a vampire or him not giving a quest etc.

My standard work-around has been to save at the entrance of Castle Volkihar before entering when finishing a quest, getting the new quest and then ignoring it - it has been my experience that the game flags your next quest when you enter the castle. Today it kept sending me to Vingalmo and he kept giving me the quest to turn an already-turned vampire. As has been discussed on another thread I killed the turned-vamp, failed the quest, and returned. A new problem arose that I was told to speak to Vingalmo (again) and it did not register in my Misc. Objectives, poetentially breaking the Side Quests. Here's what I did:

I re-loaded at the entrance and again received V's broken quest. I failed it, returned and (after several tries) was told to visit another quest-giver, though it did not register in my Misc. Objectives. I went to the quest-giver anyway and was able to get a new quest.

The issue is you may have to keep reloading several times. Not sure if this will fix every problem with Vingalmo - the game seems to decide at some point you have to take his quest and won't offer any others - but it did work this time.

I hope this helps those of you who keep bumping in Volkihar Side Quest problems.

Edit: spelling etc.

Good strategy! That's the same one I use to avoid broken Companion work locations- save outside of Jorrvaskr, not inside, to regen a different quest.

Have been using this method for quite a while, due to having been send to The Katariah quite a few times to fetch a bloodring, but The Katariah was not in my game (unless I played The Darkbrotherhood Quests). It can be indeed quite frustrating...

having a major problem as well, Vingalmo wont give me any quests any more , he sent me on errands to turn some NPC's
first one was a wood elf on a boat in riften , second was a homeless female in the warrens in markarth , the third was a female innkeeper in winterhold . so then after doing other vampire sidequests , i was asked to see vingalmo again , he sent me on a fourth quest to turn someone except this time it was the same npc in the warrens in markarth . i traveled there to check it out and she was allready a vamp . so returned to vingalmo and now he only talks about Orthjolf .

so i researched and it said somewhere that if you kill the npc's you turned and then reload it may fix the problem

..... it didnt
is there any way around this plz help

I have XBox 360 and I have never had that problem.
The problem that I have, however ( and it REALLY svcks ) is that for one...I am the new vampire lord.
Everyone that Vingalmo sent me to turn into a vampire; their eyes are dark and not glowing.
If lord Harkon turned me and my eyes glow, and everyone in that coven has glowing eyes because of lord Harkon; why is it that everyone that I turn being the new vampire lord has black eyes?
There's nothing awesome about that because there's no real noticeable change, neither in their character nor appearance, especialy when one of the characters that I turned was a Dark elf, whose eyes where dark to begin with.
I turned my wife and she looks no differant.
I wish she at least looked like Serana of her mother, Valencia.
And even allow us to change their clothes to some Volkihar attire and send them to live whereever and when ever we want.
I would populate castle Volkihar with all the new recruites, put them in the houses I bought, leave them where they are, or send a few to protect my House that I built.
I wish I had that choice!
Bethesda need to change that.

I wonder if bethesda are working on these bugs. Because once Fallout 4 comes out, i sense that Skyrim will become a less priority thing.
