What is the downside of being out in the sun as a vampire?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:30 am

I've noticed that occasionally I will get a message saying, "Your vampire blood boils in the sunlight.", but nothing happens as far as I can tell.

What am I missing here? This is my first time being a vampire.

It's explained under "Active Effects" within the Magicka section.

Decreased regen on your Health, Stamina (Maybe magicka too?) and like a 60 point drop in the values as well.

Health, magicka, and stamina get a -100% regen, and get a certain value reduced based on what stage of vampirism you are on.

On a side note, I had a character that was a vampire installing Dawnguard, joined Vampires as one, everything was normal.
But I just made a new character and joined the vampires before being one, and noticed my character's stamina regening even in the sun. May be a glitch, idk.

Biggest downside for me is it kills the role playing aspect. Played as a Vampire in Oblivion and it was much harder but way more rewarding.

-100% regen on your stamina and hp and you get a debuff to your overall hp and stamina so yeah you don't want to be exploring when the sun is out. Plus you take extra fire damage.

Fire does a lot more damage to you and you don't regen during the day, all the negatives can be negated if you get items.

I've found it makes absolutely no difference. Although my VL attacks seem less effective.

Also, this.

It really no big deal. The downsides are so small compared to the power of the VL that there's no point in not being one, almost.

Vampires should still burst into flames in the sun like in Oblivion.

Well i think the reason why vampires in skyrim don't burst into flames since its a different vampire strain, well thats what I think, hey at least they don't sparkle in the sunlight.

Oh and in bram stoker dracula vampires don't burst into flames in the sunlight here is some info about the book.

It is also notable in the novel that Dracula can walk about in the daylight, in bright sunshine, though apparently without the ability to use most of his powers, like turning into mist or a bat. He is still strong and fast enough to struggle with and escape from most of his male pursuers, in a scene in the book. Traditional vampire folklore does not usually hold that sunlight is fatal to vampires though they are nocturnal. It is only with the film Nosferatu that the daylight is first depicted as deadly to vampires.

So skyrim vampires are pretty close to folklore when it comes to the sun.

So Skyrim's vampires being weakened by the sun is more true to vampire lore than Vampires bursting into flames in the sun?

Take that people whining about Vampires not bursting into flames in the sun because "its not true to lore"!

The entire bursting into flames didn't start until 1922 with Nosferatu. Before that, they were just bothered or weakend by that. Like Dracula, mentioned earlier.
As for Elder Scrolls lore, different strains and all make it hard to answer.

Well to vampire folklore in general yes not too sure about TES lore but I always saw it as the skyrim vampire strain just made them react differently to the sun than the other vampire strains I mean we had barely any info on the skyrim vampires apart from the immortal blood book. Lets not forget the contents in that book can't be held as gospel since it was told by a vampire and well.. vampire's lie a lot.

I don't see any reason why the Author of the Immortal blood journal would have to lie about the different aspects of Vampirisim.

Vampires aren't any more prone to lying then anyone else, they are still people. It's purely down to personality.
