Hearthfire+Dawnguard= Triumph over Aerin

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 12:17 am

So many of you know of Aerin, the eternal stalker/follower of your potential follower Mjoll the Lioness.
You should also know that you may relocate your family to any one of the three house locations contained in Hearthfire. I told Mjoll to travel to my Falkreath house, and I promptly fast traveled there myself.

Now, I have tried to rid myself of Aerin in many ways, I've shouted him off cliffs, I've stuck him in locked rooms, I've cast frenzy on him, I've told Mjoll to attack him, I've told my housecarls to kill him, I've told the Brotherhood he needs to go. All of the above have always resulted in Mjoll ceasing all conversation and returning to Riften.

Now at my house in Falkreath, I begin to slowly walk to the door, laden with all sorts of IRON. I arrive and guess who runs outside to tell me that "Mjoll's never been this upset..."? Yep, that guy.

I store my iron and glass, and start to see what all he does. Typically, in my Windhelm house, Aerin would vacate the premises within thirty seconds after my arrival. In Hearthfire this is not the case. He sprints in Mjoll's footsteps around my house, knocking things over, and even going as far as staring intently at Mjoll whilst she sleeps. Naturally this upset me, and I began looking for ways to rid myself of Aerin once again.

After many attempts, all failing, many loads, and many saves, I became frustrated, not being able to find a way forward. In my anger, I ordered Mjoll to take her lousy pet back to Windhelm. Being upset, and not having enough IRON to make anything else, I followed them outside.

This was when Skyrim improved immensely for me. Mjoll instead of disappearing and reappearing at Windhelm decides to walk. Yes, that's right. Walk to Windhelm. Naturally, Aerin must follow. The two were no more than 100 feet outside my house when the event happened.

I saw a red blip appear on my compass, Mjoll draws her enchanted ebony sword. Aerin draws a dagger. Out of the woods of Falkreath emerged a Vampire Nightlord. Aerin was swiftly consumed and reanimated by the drain life reanimate combo. Mjoll was forced to strike him down herself. After watching the whole exchange, and fearing Mjoll may find me responsible, I quickly fast traveled to Windhelm. I ran into my house, frantically searched for Mjoll, and upon not finding her, decided to wait for 12 hours.

After waiting, I saw Mjoll sitting in a chair downstairs. Aerin is an ash pile in the woods. I approach Mjoll, nervous of the outcome, already prepping my rage engines for firing. And then, conversation! Mjoll was apparently ok with the fact that Aerin was dead, I assume it was because a Vampire from Dawnguard sealed the deal.

Regardless, I credit this outcome to both DLCs from Bethesda, thank you for ridding me of the single most annoying character in the game. He was even more annoying than the Adoring Fan.

Thanks for reading my story, I love Skyrim.

I never got Mjoll as a follower. So this Aerin guy just follows her around?
That's actually pretty damn funny.

So whats with the Iron?

Suddenly it's the most sought-after commodity in Skyrim- except for maybe goat horns or milk?

That was a very entertaining read. A few months ago, I just dismissed Mjoll and Aerin walked back by himself. I followed him, planning to execute him in silence, but a sabre cat ambushed us and did it for me. Problem solved, and Mjoll still spoke to me.

i easily rid myself of aerin long before dawguard. once i got mjoll as a follower i waited until 2-3 am outside aerins house, told mjoll to wait outside, then crouched and quietly entered aerins with the key from mjoll. i crept all the way to his bedside, quietly nocked an arrow and put it in aerins head...nite nite aerin

i came back out and told mjoll to part ways but before she walked away i threw on my mara amulet and proposed right on aerins doorstep. we got married later that morning and moved into my riften house, mjoll happily unaware of what happened to aerin. now everyday she greets me with "hello love" and a homecooked meal ;)

That was brilliant! Now I have a way of getting rid of that annoying guy without losing Mjoll as my wife. Definatly going to try taking them out on a little excursion to a Nordic ruin. Or maybe a Dwemer ruin. Or maybe a vampire lair. Either works for me, I just don't want to lose my Lioness.

I rid myself of him on my second playthrough in a similar manner Haggar did. Gonna have to grab a new character to let Hearthfire take care of him.

Nice little story. Very well written I must say. :)
For myself, I got rid of Aerin very easily. My house was in Windhelm, my wife Mjoll and obviously Aerin followed her around.
Only sometimes he just wandered out of the house through moment I arrived there. I don't know why. Maybe to visit his own house back in Riften, I don't know.
Anyway, one day he didn't drive in Riften, nor could I find him in Windhelm but Mjoll was still speaking to me nontheless.
I used a cheat to see if he's dead and apparently he was. I assume something on his way to Riften or back must have killed him. What that is I don't know but looking at the map I can come up with 10 theories already, considering the many dangers Skyrim tends to throw at expecting travelers. Aside from that; Aerin's road home led to at least one dragon layer and several giant or bandit camps so yeah: it would have happened sooner or later anyway.
Problem is: I never minded having him around really. Having one dog, one wife, one housecarl and one Aerin in my giant house was actually pretty need.
So I raised him back to life with a cheat. It happened in my Pacifist save file and around the only cheat I tended to use is the one to resurrect killed animals which I find on my road. And this time Aerin was that little animal.

Huh I've found so long as I only tell Mjoll to move when she's acting as a follower Aerin never follows

aerin got killed in a dragon attack well more like at the start of the attack you see he had just finished killing this ice wolf that i guess was looking at mjoll the wrong way and i was ticked because the lousy snow cur only got that creepy stalkers health down to half. and just as i was about to do my usual bout of threateningly shooting lightning bolts at the ground near aerins feet he is suddenly and violently snatched up by a dragon and dropped dead into an icy ravine. i wish i didnt have to kill that blessed creature of pure benevolence but his soul is a part of mine now so i guess that's ok and now me and mjoll can adventure in peace without that creepy breton following our every move.

That's pretty funny. I only recently discovered the joy of Aerin when I married Mjoll for Hearthfire. I was just gonna load a previous save, but I might wait for the inevitable death-by-vampire.

And to think some people wanted random vampire attacks removed :)

Aerin... what an unfortunate soul, I don't even care too much about Mjoll and he still annoys the hell out of me.

Awesome! I am on PC (so no Hearthfire yet for me) with access to mods that change all sorts of things about followers, but Aerin is still stalking Mjoll in my game - he keeps turning up at my house to visit her. I wouldn't mind taking them on as a follower couple (as I have no romantic feelings towards Mjoll, she's just a friend), but he's useless in combat, can't be recruited, and I distinctly get the impression that he is more interested than she is, iykwim, and at this point it's just OMFG are you in my house bothering my friend again?

Huh, I've never had a problem with Mjoll excommunicating me (so to speak) after killing Aerin myself. I just wait til he leaves my house (usually have to tell Mjoll to follow me, then tell her to wait so she doesn't find out), then stalk him out of the city til we're all alone and just shoot the creep in the back with a stealth bow shot.

Works every time.

I just can't bring myself to do that, he's just a sad sap, not dangerous. What I would like, is a temple of Mara quest to fix him up with someone he could actually have a good happy relationship with on equal terms, to stop him following the warrior woman who shows little interest in him. As it stands, he has absolutely no dignity, running after her like a lost sheep. He needs to wake up and find someone who likes him back!

My method I mentioned is simply a metagaming tactic. I try to RP as much as I can (especially in a TES game), but there are times when I get jostled out of my RP due to either a bug or in this case, a character. Bugs, I have no control over and just have to roll with the punch. Characters I usually do have control over, and I tend to deal with them myself.

Even if I'm RPing a Paladin type character of all things holy and good, I will murder the [censored] out of Aerin, Nazeem and the Talos preacher in Whiterun, because they are game breaking annoying.

Should have got her to follow you, tell her to wait in your house, follow Aerin to the countryside.. slice his neck. Return, ask her to follow. Dismiss her. BAM. Wife with no creepy follower :')
