There are too many textures in that cell and it paints the 7th one as black.
See the tutorial at http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/topic/4663-ck-basics-lesson-3/ (scroll to the landscaping section)
It will show you how to fix this.

thanks shalani :)

helps alot to know. +1 to my list of things i know about the kit.
kind of svcks that you cant impilment more textures. basically i have to simplifiy* my grand skemes.. not too much trouble just means a blander landscape.
but thanks all the same ;)

Six textures per quadrant of a cell gives 24 different possibilities in a cell. if you keep a cell as tundra or fieldgrass, then there is a lot of diversity to use. try to keep a theme per cell, then the only complication is the transition zone.

I have portions of wilderness that only use 2 or 3 textures that look amazing. And honestly, jamming 20 textures in one cell usually makes it look busy and weird. You just have to be creative and use the textures right and it's fairly easy to stay under the 6 texture limit. I've only been forced to choose between two textures like twice in my entire huge worldspace so far.
