Going back and forth between Planescape: Torment and Skyrim has lead me to notice the differences in settings fantasy fiction often takes. You have your out-of-there settings like Planescape: Torment, which contains Planes of existence, extremely illogical creatures and systems. And then you have things like Baulder's Gate and Skyrim with dip fantasy into realistic settings.

I've compared each (though let's not get out of hand, they both have full potential to be wonderful and a comparison is merely for fun), and I've come to the conclusion that while I have usually preferred realistic fantasy-settings in the past, settings like Planescape: Torment and Alice in Wonderland, with it's genius-level writing really shows what fantasy is about. Which is metaphors for life and in turn becomes more realistic then the realist of fantasy. It also offers more creative interpretations and original settings.

Now tl;dr - What fantasy settings tend to attract you?

In general I tend to prefer middle fantasy, which is a mix of high and low fantasy. Not many would consider the term real. But if its well made and has a good plot just about anything.

I like medieval-style stuff with a reasonable shot of believable fantasy, Oblivion and Skyrim are perfect examples of this. I also like space age fantasy. Again, it has to be somewhat believable for me to be interested, if it's too far out there or too "high-concept" it just feels cheesy.
