So.. I just got the DLC for my Xbox 360 "Hearthfire", went through lots of work getting the whole house "Lakeview Manor" built, found a suitable steward (Ria, from the companions) and got my wife and adopted daughter moved in. Things were going great! Happy Happy! Off I went to become thane of Falkreath, I had Ria gettting things for the house. A horse, cow, a few chickens, they were in the yard when I left.. Came back from a day of questing only to find the Dawnguard had slaughtered everyone,(I didn't kill the vampire I rescued her and made them mortal enemies) and Ria the steward no where to be found. Its been 3 in game weeks (from 7 of mid year to 22 of mid year) and not only do I have no family but no steward and can't even hire a new one. To me, the family and house should be off limits unless I'm there to defend them. This blows.

O_o That svcks big time, man. I thought random attacks should only occur where the player is. Did you actually find the bodies of your wife and kids, or did they disappear? I thought kids are supposed to be immortal, btw? If they just disappeared, this probably should be in the bugs section.

Enemies do not spawn unless you are there, not sure about kidnappers they might be different. So either they spawned before you left, or if as you say there was a vampire still there, they spawned when you first arrived. How do you know the Dawnguard killed them? Children are apparently not killable, so there should still be one daughter somewhere. if you cannot hire a new steward, maybe your steward is still patrolling around Lakeview Manor, just what bodies did you find at the house? Maybe your wife is still there as well.

I was about to point out that merely "rescuing the vampire" isn't enough to make the Dawnguard mortal enemies... think about what else you did.

But, more to the point, children are invulnerable, so they must still be there. They actually lack the ability for enemies or you to even target them, weapons pass through them harmlessly - they cannot, without modding, be killed.

You're right, I had the opportunity to join Dawnguard but that ended with me saying no and turning vamp, which I hated, and went back to werewolf when I'd completed the Dawnguard quest line and killing the vampire Harken. Ok, I got home, found no wife, no kids, no Ria, and Dawnguard there ambushing me. I surmised they killed everyone off. At any rate, its been about 1 in-game month now and I haven't found them anywhere, at any of my property. I really don't want to reload the previous save which would put me back about 30 hrs of play time. Ugh.

The fact you can't hire another steward means your steward is still alive. If they're not at your house, it means they've wandered off and the ai being as it is in Skyrim means they're probably walking aimlessly into a tree or rock somewhere. Alternatively, the kids, the wife and whoever else you are missing have probably glitched and will probably never reappear.

Do you know what the problem with Skyrim is?Everyone is obsessed with death!

Wait, so the Dawnguard killed your family? And you aren't a vampire? Epic RP story right there!

This is a good setting for a movie, can someone please make this into a movie and put it on youtube.
The key plot points would be

- Rescuing Vampire Girl
- Guiding her home and then going home yourself
- Arriving to find your family butchered by the Dawnguard, you have a look around.
- Revenge

This! ^

I'd be paying the dawnguard a visit and showing them what a werewolf does... KILL EVERYTHING! I would even kill that family outside. The blood of the beast is boiling.

Sounds like a glitch if you haven't found any bodies anywhere. That svcks still. I haven't had any vampire attacks yet at my house, they've attacked me, but not my family. Gonna keep an eye out though. Im fixin to go after a bow *this is my first playthru* And i agree, if im there to defend, by all means attack, but while im gone, no.

Not sure if you'll be able to do it since you're no longer a vampire, but there's a post-Dawnguard MQ mission (vampire side) that you get from one of the vampire courtiers to kill the Dawnguard leadership. That mission lets you kill Isran as well.

One thing I thought of: Have you tried going to where the missing people (especially the children) were originally found prior to moving to your house? It's as good a guess as any as to where they might have gone.

Is Isran invincible? Not sure if I remember right, but on the Vampire side.
Spoiler
I got a side quest to wipe out the Dawnguard and I could be wrong but I thought it was Israns throat that I slit.

"I've been looking for you. Got something I'm supposed to deliver. Lets see... Ah a letter of inheritance and some gold, oh and sorry for your loss. Looks like that's it, got to go".

Seriously though that svcks.

I got two letter of inheritance at the same time when a dragon killed alvor and gurder in riverwood. Made me angry.
