Library Options

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:04 am

Though I'm trying to keep myself as unspoiler'ed as possible while I wait for the game to arrive on PC, I find myself unable to hold back any longer.

What are the library options like? How many bookshelves can you have? Can you fill an entire room with them all along the walls, are they pre-set in odd locations like Proudspire Manor? etc, etc.

My book collection obsession must know! I'm tired of using Breezehome just because of the Breezehome Library mod.

It is just a closet sized tower with two floors, they look nice, but I would not get your hopes up you will have enough space to fit a big collection in there, it holds around 308 books. There is the bookshelf in the main hall that holds another 54 and if you really feel enthusiastic you can clear some of the normal shelves and try your hand at manually arranging books.

Only 308 books? Woe.

It's not enough.

It's never enough.

So far the only line I see is "The bookshelves in the library can hold up to 308 books total."

I counted them myself when I was filling the shelves up 308 books.

First floor has 5 bookshelves holding 220 books
8 shelves holding 11 books
4 shelves holding 11 books
2 shelves holding 11 books
4 shelves holding 11 books
2 shelves holding 11 books

Ground floor has 3 bookshelves holding 88 books
2 shelves holding 11 books
4 shelves holding 11 books
2 shelves holding 11 books

Now you count them yourself if you do not believe us.

There is also a chest, satchel, strong box and a couple of sacks for extra storage in the tower, I lost interest in it pretty quick.

Edit
Corrected for correct floor description

The library tower is a bit disappoing, as are all three tower wings actually. I was expecting a real full-size tower with a staircase (that goes up in circles?) and a big room upstairs filles with bookcases/enchanting/alchemy stuff. Instead we got two small half-circles. I'm also a bit annoyed we can't get the library and armory in the same house - my warrior is an intellectual, you know. Anyway, still like the DLC but there a few irritating things.

My bad. I read the UESP wrong. I thought it said 508. I just skimmed through it

How can a single room be considered a 'wing' anyway? I would have prefered you having to build a 'wing' hallway, and when you look down the hallway, your back toward the main hall, the 'patio roof' option would be on the left, the 'vaulted roof' option on the right, and the tower option in the middle. Then no one would complain about having to choose between armory and library. Granted, the patios wouldn't connect to each other, but in truth they don't even now. There is a small bit of railing blocking you from walking between them.
