Spouse doesn't recognize kids?

Well as you all know, Hearthfire allows you to adopt kids and bring them into your home. After building the small house in Lakeview and then adding the main hall I decided to try out the new adoption mechanic. I went to Honorhall and picked out a boy and then went to Windhelm to get the girl. So that left my character and two children living in this new estate along with the housecarl/steward. Well after 48 levels, I decided it was time to get my character married. Not that she couldn't handle the kids and house by herself but I wanted to see the unique dialog the father of the family would say. After finding a candidate a getting hitched, I had him move into the newly built mansion. But he doesn't seem to know the kids are even there, he only recognizes we're married, no options come up to ask him how the children are doing or the like. But, the boy talks about how Pa is going to take him hunting.

I think it has something to do with not being married before adopting. If we adopted the kids together maybe he would recognize them but as of now he acts like they don't exist. I think it could be a bug in the scripting somewhere. The game probably assumes everyone will be married before they installed Hearthfire anyway so they didn't prepare for anyone having kids beforehand because it was impossible.

Not a gamebreaker for me, just want to know if it will prevent me from seeing any raids or ransom notices. So far in about a month or so of game time I've hand only one giant approach my house, things have been relatively quiet.

Its not a game bug, you just married a cold hearted snake, and make sure you tell him he owes me child support.

I think that most likely the "vanilla" game didn't have prospective spouses record lines concerning children, possibly because they didn't know there would be child adoption in Skyrim. Truth be told, I would have been amazed if it were otherwise.

You'll just have to RP a bit. A video game, even one like Skyrim, can only do so much.

Well who did you marry, because some of the potential spouse candidates may not have received any new lines of dialogue to say in Hearthfire, particularly ones with rather "unique" (for a marriage option, anyway) voice types. From what I've read, there is supposed to be new lines of dialogue for your spouse to say, but I much rather suspect that some do not get any new lines at all.

Yeah, not every spouse has new lines. Bethesda only got some of the original voice actors to record new lines for Hearthfire, and this is why so many followers cannot become stewards- they lack the new dialogue for it.

Very informative, thanks guys.

Oh, and to test I married Stenvar on one save and Perth on another. Two completely different voices, still no dialogue changes. Ah oversight, perhaps? I have a much earlier game save so I will try someone else when I get around to it, on that one I'll be able to marry before picking out the kids, so maybe that will help.

Man, I just noticed how [censored]ty I'm making character sound lol
