Is the crossbow a bit to strong?

I mean you get it very quick and it does far more damage than every other bow.

Also it reloads at pretty much the exact same speed a regular bow pulls back.

it also depends on the Archery Skill if your archery skill is high than yeah it's going to be real powerful.....but if the archery skill is low than this might be a bug or a glitch or just common sense lol

You also have to consider there are no dragonbone crossbows or bolts. At higher levels the power balances out a bit.

Search function.

Anyway, Crossbows are supposed to do more damage than bows, I'm not sure why everybody is so surprised about it. They also DO take longer to reload than you're implying, and after taking a shot you're forced into the reload animation which leaves you wide open for attack. Bows do not have this huge disadvantage. I say huge disadvantage because on Master difficulty assuming you aren't abusing exploits or loops to overpower yourself, it can mean death in seconds if you're left wide open forcibly reloading your crossbow. With bows, you don't have this problem because you can choose when to knock your arrow and shoot, and you can do it much quicker and shoot farther. Crossbows also might seem to reload faster than they should, but it's most likely because you have a perk making it reload faster.

Dwarven crossbow has a base damage of 22 and a dragonbone bow has a base of 20. So its not too overpowered taking into account its reload time...I actually typically have less problems avoiding a crossbow wielding foe than a bow wielding foe in my game. And this is near point blank range.

A steel crossbow does the same base damage as Daedric, using the same enchants and projectile damage. I prefer the bow because I feel more in control but the crossbow is just cool.

well it has to be awesome, its a dlc weapon. If it svcked who would use it? I doubt it was intended for you to escape helgen and run strait to fort dawngaurd to nab a crossbow. At low levels it is more powerful than about every other bow you'll find

I'm going to go w/ "no" on the tread title Q. I wish Bethesda added Dragonbone Crossbow and Dragonbone Enhanced Crossbow. That would be sick . Anyways, I love my Dwarven Enhanced Crossbow dearly. But I like using the bow more because of its faster reload speed and its silent when firing arrows. It just feels more reliable to me.

They fill different nitches for ranged combat.
Bow for long range silent sniping.
Crossbow for mid-close range stoppage power.

Anything ranged is easy to avoid, just jump around! I bumped into a dunmer who flung many fireballs at me, I not only avoided every single one whilst imitating master chief, I also managed to jump around his opening power attack, whip round and bury my sword in his spine :D a PVR, my thanedom for a PVR!

yeah but you can grab the regular cross bow and dwarven cross bow way to easy.

that kinda thing should be inside of a chest, behind a monster, at the end of a cave...

You mean the same way all the schematics for enhanced steel, dwarven, enhanced dwarven, and exploding steel/dwarven bolts are?
