I'll meet you there mama..

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 2:25 am

Seriously kid? You are going to travel by your self to the other side of Skyrim to meet me at our new house..
Does anyone else find this a tad unrealistic? I get attacked every 5 meters when I'm on the road.. Why the hell would I want my kid to travel alone? Mental!

I imagine she took a coach or somthing along those lines...mainly due to the fact that i also doubt a child could survivorchild their way across skyrim.

Are you forgetting that children in skyrim are completely untouchable? If the freaking Dragonborn can't hurt one, what hope does any random baddie have against them?

Just pretend they hired a carriage to take them there with the money they've earned while begging.

Houston, we've found our problem.

See, my daughter figured out what I did: stay off the roads and you're much safer.

My lil' Runa was getting very proficient with the dagger I gave her, at least until the Dawnguard raid on my house. (for details on that episode see "He dies She dies everybody dies") She was fun to watch. I'd trust her on the road alone.

I've seen both my kids training with daggers on the practice dummy, you really wouldn't want to mess with either. Although you would think they would keep the skeevers from invading the cellar.

This is to ensure that you don't exploit the game to have a child follower. Figure safe passage is arranged somehow.

There's a similar situation in Fallout 3, where you find a home for an orphaned child. You make the arrangements, but he gets there himself.

No, they can't die in the game, but it's not Elder Scrolls lore. It's a necessary game mechanic, pure and simple.

Unrealistic? What about the fact a child will willingly be adopted by a stranger after a 1 minute conversation :P ?

That depends on the life circumstances of that child. Look at little Runa when you enter the orphanage, even in the vanilla game where the adoption mechanic doesn't exist. She begs you to adopt her. Why? She doesn't want to be a kid in an institution, even one run by a dedicated and caring person like Constance. She wants to be someone's daughter, pure and simple.

Remember that in these days of modern medicine, safe workplaces, and abortion on demand, we have relatively few parentless or unwanted children. If you want to be a foster or adoptive parent, you have to go through an exhaustive process of home studies, training, and God knows what else. Because we have far less need of them, orphanages are a rarity here, and the few remaining are strictly regulated by child welfare laws that don't exist in Skyrim. So know that an unwanted child may well be overjoyed to have anyone call them "son" or "daughter". Some, like Lucia, were called such once nad never thought they would be again. Others, like Samuel, never heard it at all. To put it another way, when you're drowning and someone throws you a rope, you don't worry about what kind of person threw it. You just grab it.

The only thing I personally find unrealistic is that you can kill a kid's parents and then adopt them. It couldn't have been hard to create a game mechanic where children of parents you'd killed, even ones at Honorhall, would refuse to speak to you.

Pretty much this, one seasonal event in WOW is that you are supposed to bring an orphan kid somewhere. Kid look cute and come with child comments like "are we where yet" but mostly act as an pet so you can bring them with you exploring dungeons even raiding.

One should also keep in mind that as a video game the player character is a monster magnet. They have to exaggerate the danger so you can enjoy the game.

Callous, you are, to kill a child's parents before their little eyes. You probably scared the child so bad, you didn't even get a bounty.

What? You didn't? Well, then how would she know you killed them? ;)

As for "realism" in Skyrim, I gave up on that the second some Jarl asked me to find some dragon stone for his court wizard. Here's a dude with a freaking army at his disposable, yet he asks me to do it because he couldn't spare one guard who spends his time mulling about Dragonsreach when another guard is patrolling the same area? Pfft.

Uhhh... no. Callous is stealing a kid's sweetroll or smooshing their pet mudcrab. Murdering their parents in front of them is sick and evil.

The only thing that has attacked my house in Falkreach so far have been giants. If skeevers and vampires also attack I may just leave it to them and move back into the city (Solitude or somewhere-I have all of the houses). Will children stay with me if I spend all my time in say Riften?
