Unsure about Hearthfire

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:33 am

Hey Everyone,

New to the forum and Skyrim in general. I love the game and plan to get both DLC's eventually. I have the points sitting in my account for Hearthfire right now but have been putting off downloading after reading through all of the bugs that people have encountered. I'm seriously worried about it wrecking Skyrim for me. I just want to know who thinks it's not as glitched as some have said or if I should wait awhile for a patch so that I won't be disappointed. Oh, and I get the concept of the content and know that I will enjoy it. I'm simply worried about getting some or all of the reported issues.

Thanks for the input!

Things to know:

-
Spoiler
You have to kill Grelod to adopt kids, then go to Arentino about it.
Otherwise the other lady won't stop freakin out.

Besides that, I love it. I haven't had many extra issues (placing some items in display racks and such will sometimes move and such, but that's old hat). I wish there was more to the DLC, or that there were time requirements for it to build. For but honestly I think we always wish for more. I have invested quite a bit of time just prepping the resources for it, then choosing what I want and how to make the most of it. Then you have to go inside and decorate it how you want it, and then even more time putting your own gear on the plaques and everything.

THEN on top of that you choose your steward, husband/wife, and children. Then you can begin on another home. It was well worth the 5 bucks to me.

Not entirely true. You can adopt non-orphanage kids, if you have the necessary furniture. No other actions required.

If you can play Skyrim now without a lot of freezing, stutters, dead things dropping from the sky or unexplained mysterious happenings in your houses (bookshelves eating books, things crashing the game) you are not likely to run into any bugs that would spoil Hearthfire. Even if you do get performance issues due to an unforeseen glitch while building or furnishing, keeping a save game before you started building will let you go back and try again. Or simply go back and change your mind about what you wanted.

Most of the things you have heard people complaining about are not glitches or are glitches that have been in the main game all the time. If you are already struggling with freezing and stuttering in the main game, DLC would make it worse. You would do best to solve the current problem before adding more to the game.

It might seem that way but that's because many players are reporting the same problem (e.g. "I can't get the letter from the Jarl") without understanding it's nature.

Otherwise, a fairly significant number of genuine glitches have been reported and confirmed.
