"Choose new paths for your skills and abilities.." #

I'm still reading the other thread having just woke up, and I think it's worth continuing

Thread #1 http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1423420-choose-new-paths-for-your-skills-and-abilities/

The Statement:

"New Powers
Discover dark powers as you journey into a new Daedric realm. Collect books of forbidden knowledge and choose new paths for your skills and abilities."

http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/add-ons/

Could this be a perk reset?

I saw a lot of people complaining quite vociferiously about this on the locked thread, and I can't understand why. From a lore PoV, well, nobody complained about lycanthropy, curing it and then being able to just speak to Aela to re-contract it come Dawnguard, did they....?

Anyway, I honestly think this could pan out in one of four ways.....

1. NEW skill trees with new perks. This in and of itself means the level cap will be raised so no worries, more perks to gain.
2. EXISTING skill trees with new perks. If this is the case, honestly, I think it's a bit unfair to those players who've sunk considerable time and effort into their character and are at the level cap (I fall into this category!). Fine, make me do a tough quest to reset my perks, make it a one-time-only deal, but please, don't freeze me out of new content!
3. INDEPENDENT skills trees a la Vampire Lord / Werewolf.
4. Something different, perhaps acquiring new skills by reading a specific skill book in that library, as opposed to levelling, acquiring a perk point then choosing to spend it.

Right now I personally feel option 4 is the most likely, in that acquiring these 'books of forbidden knowledge' will grant a perk point to spend as we wish when read.

Oh and hi; this is my second post here - long time lurker, long time player, never really got involved in the wider community until now. I'm really looking forward to this expansion - it does sound very much like it'll be substantially meatier than Dawnguard was.

Well welcome to the forums NeilF - have a fishy stick http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r105/Enoil/DarkFishyStick.jpg

I have to ask, because it's to do with what we're discussing: What is the appeal of having one character that has reached the level cap?

Thanks :)

So maybe it's just a personal thing (I see lots of folks with multiple characters) but after investing so heavily in one character, to repeat this over again would (to me) be akin to watching a film, then watching it again a day later. You already know what's going to happen so you can prepare and adapt to it, which kinda spoils the whole immersion and experience for me. I feel that after that heavy investment of time, careful considerations made, I've made that character as close to what I wanted as possible.

For sure there are things I'd have done differently, but there's no reason for me to go back and re-do them over again (the incentive is there - fun!).

I hit the level cap because I started experimenting with different things on the same character - going sneaking around, kicking off alchemy, wearing light armour, that kind of thing. Plus I wanted to spawn a Legendary Dragon (it was all over quickly, I dual-wield my own custom blades Thunder and Lightning, the dragon didn't like them so much). I guess that was borne of a desire to 'do' and 'see' as much as possible; even now I'm finding new things (Pilgrim's Trench was a great find a couple of days ago).

So yeah, if they're going to start messing with the existing skill trees (e.g. in Smithing, insert a new perk for 'Stahlrim Smithing') then to be honest, I'd like the opportunity to re-consider my decisions on perks. Make me get the item that lets me re-set from a very hard dungeon - that's fine - heck I'd probably do the quest anyway. But to be frozen out of new perks because I chose to spend them already? Not sure about that one. Don't think it will even come to that actually.

I won't be frozen out of new content and I have 3 characters at level cap. What I'll be doing on Dec 1 is creating a new character for this new DLC; problem solved.

edit: I'm not especially opposed to a "respec" option, but I don't think it's necessary and I am kind of hoping that Bethesda put their time and effort into other, more important things. On the other hand, if they do implement a respec, I would love (love, love, love) to see the implementation when I crack it open in the CK.

Repeating or discussing it won't make it so, it'll just cause more arguments. So i suggest just discussing what kind of new abilitys there might be.

You couldn't have articulated my feelings any better. This is exactly how I feel. I'm often creating new characters for Demons Souls and Dark Souls, but that's because of the PvP aspect and 'buried' story line/lore. I really took my time with Skyrim, enjoyed every minute of it, and never even considered doing it all again just for a different type of build; without sounding cliche, I guess that 'magical' feeling of meeting NPCs for the first time, hearing their stories, discovering new quests, new areas etc, would have felt tainted somehow.
