Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:37 am

Hi everyone...

I've spent a few hours searching this Blog, but found noone with my problem. I need help on fixing my display cases in Hearthfire to Let me Put ANYTHING inside them. Currently the ONLY thing i can do with any of my display cases is Open and Close them, it will NOT let me do anything else. Will someone please help me fix this problem please? Thank you :)

There is nothing to fix, there is nothing wrong with them. All they did was take the easy option away, you have to put the object in there yourself, no automatic activation.

They don't work like weapon racks. You just drop items, then pick them up and literally plonk them down in the case. It's problematic due to the infamous item placement bugs but that's all you can do. Try dropping something on the floor, then go outside and come back in (a couple of times sometimes). Then grab the item and do your best to get it where you want it. Thats all you can do.

Thanks guys for the reponse... How do you just drop stuff in them? I thought doing stuff like that was only for PC with those mod kits? I have 360 version, and I've never had luck with putting stuff where ever i wanted. Why does the display cases in Markarth work like the weapon racks? Cause all I have to do for them is equip. weapon and activate case and it's in there. What's going on?

You could always put what ever you wanted to in the display cases by doing it yourself, but to make it easier they allowed us to put weapons in the easy way and not have to arrange them. Seems many never realised the cases still worked the same as in Oblivion, so for Hearthfire, they are encouraging people to be more inventive with how they use the display cases. Just use A to manually pick things up, hold it a bit longer and it will not go in your inventory, but let you hold it. Press A again to let go of the object. Best to dump it on the floor first (X) and rush out the door and return to ensure it stays where you put it, but that method will not work on all objects in the game though, only most.

It takes a bit of practice to become proficient at arranging things.

It took me about a week to place a torch on a wall leaning up against something so it wouldn't fall off.but everytime I walked into the house I'd hear a clonk and the torch would be lying on the floor. it was when I finally got the torch to stay in place some days later that I finally just gave up on the dlc. Because what's the point of buying a dlc house that you can't arrange your furniture the way you want and place items where you want. Conned!

Well a torch rolls, you cannot blame the DLC for for that, you should have put it in something to stop it rolling or falling over. There are plenty of buckets, pots and kettles, or just find a place to put it where it will not roll.

Doesn't items that lay around too long dissapear? If so, shouldn't items you manually place in displaycases dissapear?

You can dump the entire contents of your inventory on the floor in any house it it will not vanish, you could even dump it most places in Skyrim and it will not vanish. Items that belong to NPC's can vanish when they die, anything the player dropped stays, unless some weird bug makes it vanish, and that is rare.

Have you tried to put a torch that hangs upside down everytime you pick it up into a vase that is sitting on a shelf. If you don't know the answer then give it a try. That's why I opted for leaning it against the corner of a wall so that it would be stable. The games physics are broken don't try and make out that they are fine and its me that has the problem.

Do you know if the cellar is safe? I could have sworn I picked up the ore that comes with the furnishing near the forge (under the 5 safes) and then some days later new ore was there. I'd hate to put something in the cellar and have it vanished.
