Remodel house failure

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:55 pm

So I made a house at Falkreath and tried to remodel it back into just the entryway... just for the hell of it and it didn't work. the option just goes away but nothing happens to the house.

All it does is change the small house if you have furnished it as a house, your furnishings will vanish and you will have the options to furnish it as an entrance to the main hall. Are you saying you still have the bed and other furnishings from the small house even though you chose to make it an entryway?

I thought you were going to say you bought your kids a pet sabre cat and the Epic Fail screen popped up... :chaos:

I think you meant you wanted your house to become a small house again and undo the main hall addition. But like Ausie said all the Entry way plan does is change the available furnishings for the small house area.

Chiming in here since I just did the steps of building the main hall out from what had been a fuily furnished small house at Lakeview. Walk in expecting to find an empty entryway space and it's still all homey with the bed, cookpot- and bonus wandering Valdimar (from Windstad) in there making himself comfortable!

From your advice in prior threads, I sure have a whole bunch of saves related to housebuilding, so no problem. ;) Will just start over next session and see what happens.

Certainly you can never have too many saves when attempting to build a glitch free house, or even just one you are happy with. The entryway refusing to appear is unusual though, maybe it was because it was occupied at the time? Or maybe there is actually some sort of loss protection in there (doubt it though) did you have something stored in any of the furniture or containers?

Just before starting the new phase I hauled everything out of the small house's chest I was using for storage, put it all into the outside chest, and then finished remodel on the same game-day. So I bet you're right- the game may still think I have stuff inside. Before restarting I'll try a few tricks like waiting and/or moving cells, fast travelling back to see what happens. Will report results once I get the chance to try those.

I just changed the Windstad partially furnished small house into an entryway with no trouble, I had kept the left over building supplies in the chest and the junk the house kept chucking on the floor in the drum by the front door. Emptied everything and it changed OK. It had been there for a while, but I discovered there were not enough large display cases for a book collector even as woeful as Aussie, so changed it for the extra large display case. At least in my game the Windstad wall hangings on the right main hall entrance side glitch, so I had prefered it as a small house. And I get more fun trying to decorate a small house, not much you can do with an entryway. :(

I now have the strange glitch where all the sacks in the new entryway seemed to have doubled, they look the same as usual, but when you slowly pass the curser over them they have invisible twins. Obviously not going to be keeping anything but house junk in them.

Well is my face red, after further investigation my own issue was thinking that the small house > entryway happened by default at the end of main house completion so that it's possible to add additions (which are newly viewable in the drafting menu). What I did not realize is that the remodel to entryway step is a separate, selectable step at the very bottom of the menu, below all the additions.

So the starter section is confirmed changeable in my game to somewhat bare state. I noticed assorted containers, some clutter was still there - so chest items would probably have been safe during remodel after all. But now that I know how it works- that you can apparently build wings without being required to have the formal entry- I may just keep the front part as small house. It'll be like having a cozy guardhouse!

Sorry, I thought you realised you get a choice as to whether or not you want to change it to an entryway. That is what I have been doing for some of the houses, leaving it as the small house, but without the bed and firepit, that and the entryway has that silly low table with a broom on it, which I always leave out anyway. The main advantage of the entryway is the weapon racks and large display case. The furniture in the small house appeals to me more even if you cannot do much with it. The table and chair and chair in the corner will get used by NPC's.

The door mat looks nice if you have the patience to get your steward to furnish it, but then you have to put up with all the furniture being built, I decided the door mat was not worth it. If they ever do a patch for the DLC I would love the option of building the bench ourselves for the entryway since that is probably what the door mat comes with.

Customise house failure

On the contrary, for example my main character is going to have some very different-looking houses and decor compared to a couple of my other house-interested characters. With some working knowledge (thanks to aussie et al's posting keen observations in the HF forum so far), it's really a fair amount of latitude for a quickie, "filler" $5 DLC! Quite pleased!

I think it is customisable enough, it is just taking a bit of thought.

Now where was I meant to put the respawn infor?
