Linking doors inside the same cell

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 5:18 am

Is there any particular reason to not link two doors that are inside the same cell together? I'm trying to link the upstairs balcony of one of my houses to the rest of the cell, and I haven't yet found a very good way to build a staircase up to it.

I've linked a door on the ground floor to one on the upper level, and so far it's working okay. I'm just curious if anyone knows any potential dangers/eventual bugs to this setup.

Thanks!

I don't think there's any reason that you can't do it, but it will be annoying having to go through a load screen to get to another part of the same cell. Probably better with an instant teleport.

How would you set up an instant teleport?

There's loads of posts on the forum about it. Type teleport script into the search box at the top right of the page and hit enter. Take your pick on which one you want to use.

It shouldn't go to a load screen if it's in the same cell. (I.e. nothing to load) It will simply fade to black then fade back in. In Fallout there was no fade, so it was instant. It should be the same here, just with the quick fade.

AJ is right. I do this quite a lot for a number of reasons. It is more like an instant teleport with a short door animation. I don't find it irritating at all but the door animation is perhaps a little more immersive than an instant teleport from some random trigger object.

I'd use a door instead of a teleport, It's kind of game breaking without an animation because you open the door and immediately appear on the other side. You can fix this though by adding in effects and stuff to the teleport script but it's a lot easier to just link the 2 doors in the same cell since it has all the animations for you. That's just my opinion though, some might not find it game breaking but without the animation I think it just doesn't look right.

Thanks for the thoughts. After tinkering around for a bit, I think I've found a way to build a tightly closed ramp up to the second floor. However, I may use the linked doors elsewhere.

Thanks again!
