How to start HF

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:57 pm

Ok, so the PC final has it. I'll buy/download it when I get home.

I have a save that is already a Thane of Falkreath, and beat the MQ and DG.

So, after I install DG ... what do I do or what am I waiting on to start on the house?

Thanks.

It'll probably start with a courier bearing a letter from Jarl of Falkreath, and if you have finished first phase of DB, also bearing a letter from Constance of Riften.

Caution, though: there are some open quests that'll prevent the courier from showing up. Head on over to UESP and make sure your character doesn't fall into the hidden issues which will prevent getting the notice.

For getting started, it's good to refer back to this post

My current character is only a thane of Riften and Morthal. have not started the MQ but am Harbinger of the companions. Would I be able to get homes? One of my other characters has done everything and is thane in every hold possible. I don't feel like playing her at the moment though. But I bet she won't have a problem getting hearthfire started.

Well I just talked to the steward in Falkreath and got the land. I also got a letter from Whiterun talking about house upgrades, but I just want the Lakeview Manor.

Thing is I kept waiting and waiting for someone to offer to be a steward for me as I didn't want it to be my Housecarl. But no one came and I checked with the steward of Falkreath and no one was suggested. So I had to check the wiki and it said it needed to be follower. So I hired a couple followers and none of them gave the option to be a steward. I finally just made my Housecarl a steward. :(

You should be able to talk to the Jarl of Morthal and ask about buying property, whereupon he will tell you there are no houses but there is land and to speak with the steward.

Just remember what so many other people were forgetting (or not paying attention to): it's the *steward* who sells the land. Not the Jarl. Not the housecarl, not the dishwasher or cook, but the steward.

thanks. I recieved a letter from the steward of Riften informing me I could adopt... but I couldn't cause that old "You kids will never be adopted" witch was still alive and I had no adoption dialog despite Honeyside basemant being turned into a kids room.

So I went to Morthal having recieved no info/letter from anyone and went to the steward and he had dialog "I would like to buy a house" which he responded as you mentioned "There is no house available but I have a plot of land for sale" response. I bought it and now have a fully funished home outside Morthal.

I also went and killed the old witch in Riften and the young woman there let me adopt a little girl. Already gave her a toy doll and two dresses. Though I now have a feeling I'm about to be kidnapped in my sleep cause a courier met me outside the orphanage with a note that said "We Know"

Stormcloaks.

HEY ! I can't build WINDSTADT Manor, i already bought the land, and have all tools there, like drafting table etc. but when i try to build nothing appears! In any way, with disabled mods too.
I was only capable to build Falkreath house.

Also in Morthal: you have to complete the Daedric quest before the option will come up to buy the land in the Pale. More important info on this particular house here

It's also the only home with a working mill.
