Can you join the Dawnguard as a normal Vampire?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 9:20 am

So the question is exactly as is, can you join the Dawnguard as a normal Vampire? I would investigate this matter myself, but it isn't out on PC yet. I have found conflicting responses online going either way, I just want to make sure so I can have some proper role play established for when it comes out for PC. If this has already been asked, a link to that thread would be much appreciated.

You'd have to get it cured pretty early on. So no, not really.

So the game makes you go and get cured in order to join? I am not talking about Vampire Lord mind you, just a normal vampire via Sanguinare Vampiris.

Yeah, vampires aren't allowed in the vampire hunting club. Not too surprising.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to use the creation kit to let me join as a vampire, but it shouldn't take much messing around to get that right. Thanks for the responses.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to try to wipe out the vampires as a fellow vampire? Why not join us?

Well I was on the vampire side and I never killed so many vampires while doing their quests. Besides each character has their own reasons, I thought some of the restrictions were annyoing. I would have liked to have played another character on the vampire side who was not a vampire, just because he had bad hatred issues.

A lot of it has to do with my character's RP, which includes becoming infected with vampirism while looking into ways to extend his life and was held against his will until it took effect. Now he has sworn to hunt down vampires for cursing him with the disease. He does like the immortality however and decides not to cure it until he can find another form of immortality. I also find the whole vampire lord transformation to be a little bit absurd, with the levitation and force choke... I'll stick with immortality and human form as a normal vampire.

You won't be allowed to do the vampire side if you don't become a VL either.

But you can get that cured pretty quick and then contract the standard disease again.

Interesting, so can you then continue as a "normal" vampire through the quest line?

Fairly certain. The only time it is required for you to go VL form is when Harkon first turns you.

Tell that to the Nighstalkers.

Even on the side of the Vampires you kill just as many vampires as the Dawnguard through side quests.

You can simply become a VL and choose not to transform. The VL have the same abilities and stats as normal vampires, so being a VL wouldn't contradict your RP.

But then again, its your choice.
