I'm a Horrible Parent

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 4:50 am

So for a while I had Sofie alone (no steward or housecarl yet because of Serana) in Hiejalmarch Hall. And I kind of just left her there while I did my adventures. I actually started to feel bad, especially given the two giant camps right there (seriously weird location choice there, Beth). Anyway I finally decided to decorate Breezehome and moved her there to live with Lydia. And I also adopted Lucia and brought Meeko home. So now I don't feel so guilty about taking off so long on my adventures.

Oh well, they were homeless orphans before at least they have a roof over their heads now.

I felt bad too whenever i adopted Lucia right after i bought Breezehome. I would take Lydia with me and be gone for long periods of time and leave her home by herself. But she was safe inside Whiterun walls. So i built my house and got married and adopted Aleson, got a steward and a housecarl and a couple pets. All was good then. I just felt so sorry for her, out on the street begging for coin at all hours of the night. I couldn't just leave her. Figured if she had a warm place to stay, it was better than out in the cold.

The only character I have who may adopt before marrying is my Imperial. And he will leave his child(ren) either at Honeyside, where they'll have the Imperial Guard watching over them, or at the home he builds, with his steward, housecarl, and bard.

My Dunmer's married, my Nord likely soon will be, and my Khajiit... well, he's the cat who walks by himself.

I had the same concern, so I just hired Rayya as my steward at Lakeview Manor, and had her provide babysitting services as well.

Damn, I thought I was a bad parent because I don't want to play tag at 2 am. My little Dovakids get $1,000 allowances whenever the ask for it, I just can't be bothered to run around my house all hours of the night after a full day of adventuring.

Sure is in this day and age. Especially if that money goes towards buying Skyrim!

It's funny, but my kids haven't asked me for an allowance yet. They've asked me if they can have pets and if I've got anything for them, but not for my hard-earned septims.

I took a peek in their dresser a couple days ago, and they've got quite an impressive stash of loot going there. They've learned from their mother well.

No matter what the circumstances, especially with kids who have no proper shelter (Lucia and Sofie both qualify), you've given them a safe port in a very rough storm. If Skyrim had a karma system, your score would have gone up. :)

As I've often said, with the number of Dunmer in Skyrim, there should have been a few Dunmer younglings. And since the orcs live in strongholds and marry among themselves, there should be little orcs, too.
